    Hello,

A few weeks ago, I posted here about how my dv6000z was experiencing some issued with the wireless adapter not being detected...

Well, my problems with the dv6000z continue. I left school this afternoon, and before I left, I turned off the laptop. I noticed that it seemed to take a while to shut down, but I thought nothing of it. When I got home, I plugged in the power, and turned on the laptop. Then I heard three POST beeps. One long beep then two short beeps.

I've looked up the POST code, and it seems that either the motherboard or video adapter failed. I was planning on sending the laptop to HP in May to repair the wireless, but it looks like I might have to send it in sooner for repair.

The warranty is one-year, and I got it in July. How do I go about sending in the laptop for repair? Call up HP tech support then they give me information?

I think after I get the laptop repaired, I'll sell it and get something else. I'm quite honestly sick of problems with HP laptops.

    Thanks.

    Either call or goto hp.com/support.

I just realized that I can log into Windows. I entered in my password and heard the Windows login sound. It indeed seems like the graphics adapter has gone bad...

Thanks miner. I believe I'll have to call that number today.

In the meantime, is there any way I can pull some important files off the laptop without using the screen? Could somehow I network my laptop and desktop together to access some files?

It might be easiest to remove the HD and hook it up to a SATA to USB adapter. Or plug it directly into a desktop PC's SATA port.

Wouldn't getting the hard drive out involve opening up the laptop, thus voiding the warranty?

looks like your HP may fall into the recall category HP recently released.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01087277

should've gotten an email from them if you registered that HP when you got it w/ your email. but if not, here's the scoop.

i had a dv2210 worked for almost a year as well...then bam, same problems you are having. sent it in to them, did not have it for about 2 months, finally a case manager sent me a brand new dv2700t.

apparently the motherboards overheated and started burning out other parts in the laptop until eventually...

the wireless adapter issue is the first sign it's going to self terminate shortly.
i'd suggest you backup everything you want off of if you get into windows ok.
depending on your exact model #, you'll probably have to send it to HP.

    i'd give HP a call.

    Ok... thanks everyone so far.

We just called HP and they said that they will fix it for free. They will send us a box, and we send them the laptop, and it should take 7-9 business days to repair. They said all the data on the hard drive will be erased, which makes me think that they will just replace the entire laptop... Now, I need to find some way to get the data off the drive (though I think I can do that).

Hey as brianstretch says, I think the best way would be to pull the drive out and attached it to an external Sata enclosure. It is quite simple to pull the drives from these systems. Also have you tried to attach an external monitor? I know the graphics card it defective but maybe that part may work.

    Good luck!

I'll try to pull out the drive and get the data off. I did actually try hooking up an external display to it, both over S-Video and VGA, and nothing appeared.
