    Hi everyone,

My Radiance screen has become unusable, as lots of green pixels are appearing on the screen day after day.

    Some pics:

I'm going to ask for a warranty repair, and as it's 99,999% sure that I'll get a BrightView, I'm currently buying a Radiance screen from eBay.

Anyway, do you know if HP gives some rebates or coupons when they downgrade the screen from Radiance to BrightView during a repair? I've paid a €300 more for Radiance (I'm French and I ordered the Envy in Germany) and I'd pretty pissed that HP changes my screen to a BW :/

    Thanks guys.

The warranty states they will replace it with the same or similar replacement. So good luck.

When i sent mine in they built me a brand new one with a 256gb ssd in exchange for the radiance. If you've had it for a long time then i would think they would prob offer you a coupon but fight for cash back.

    Really? I like that :D
Did you ask before if there were any Radiance left or did you just fight after you got your repaired computer with BW? Because the tech I had told me that normally they would switch with the same screen, but a little while later I told him the difference between BW and Radiance

Your screen died how long after you've purchased the Envy?

Remember that it also depends on the rep you get and what mood they happen to be in. I've gotten many things done by finding the right person but luck plays a part in that too so be careful because just because they say they are going to do something doesn't mean thats what will happen. I guarantee many more people got BV's back or way less money than they paid then 256 ssd's. They aren't obligated to do anything about it but give you a working screen and that includes a BV.

Not saying it can't be done but the risk is high.

It really does depend on the CSR you get. I got a nice lady named Ruth. She told me the radiance was supposed to be in supply by late April and asked if I wanted to wait or get a new 17SB or 14 envy. I told her that it's most likely not going to come because HP has said that before. So I decided on a new 14 because the 17SB is too big for me. She wanted to give me a CPU boost from 720 to 740 and 8gb ram and 620gb hdd. But I said downgrade me to an 580 and pleasee put in the 256gb ssd she saw the price was $525 and was basically saying its tooo much. After telling her that the hassle of losing the envy and the value of it to me equaled the difference for the cost. Eventually she said OK. I never yelled or used threatening words. I wanted to work with her to get a comparable computer and she wanted to do the same thing.

Plus my radiance was apparently cracked from shipment and I had proof that it wasn't cracked when I sent it. I sent it in around 2 months after I got it and got my new one a month after that.

If you paid extra for the radiance then they are obliged to give you an equal performing product. Since the 1600x900 is not the same as the 1366x768 then they can't just put that in without compensating you somehow. I don't know what the consumer protection laws are in your country so you probably have to look into that.

*It also matters how far into your warranty you are. If you're 2 weeks before your warranty ends then they'll probably not build you a new computer just for the screen.

my envy w/ radiance had a color problem (one day I turn on the computer and the whole screen was red), I sent it back to hp, they offered me a 128 ssd.

but I really miss my radiance, I think I'm gonna buy another one :(

ps: didn't know this board existed, there are so much tricks on how to get the best from my envy, loving it!!

Favoriting this thread. Keep us posted on further updates. Really sorry to hear about your display. Aside from the glare, it's truly one of a kind!

There is no way in .... that i'd take a 128g ssd in place of a radiance. 256g minimum even then your are left looking at a crappy screen for the rest of the envy's life. You can buy a used 128g ssd for not very much if you really want one.

Hmmm. If so, your best bet is getting a replacement off eBay. Not sure whether HP's parts replacement dept still has any in stock.

If they did it would be a miracle since they continuously stated that it will never come back. Although they did surprise us in january for a few short days.

Other people have already been downgraded. If they claim they don't have it, I don't see how they can offer it.

Wish you the best in this regard. I'd personally try to find a replacement screen on the web for $200-250 and no more. Only problem is the Envy 14 Beats edition from what I've heard wouldn't be able to fit it. You'd have to buy one of the first mocha-colored Envies that came out.

    Hi guys, some news...

I managed to find a Radiance display for its original price, I'll receive it this week (the French customs took it, I have to pay a 25% tax on the price -_-).
My computer is still in repair (even if it has been more than 2 weeks and HP has promised me it would take about 10 days but of course they had no screen in stock), so I have to wait a little longer. The most frustrating part is that I have to wait for HP to put a Brightview screen (that I'll get rid of) and ask them to put a 256 gb SSD to compensate the price of a Radiance screen, so it means several weeks without my Envy :(

    I'll keep you posted !

    Hi everyone !

I got my Envy at last!!! And the good/bad news is that.... IT GOT RADIANCE!

I wonder how this is possible. Really. I thought Radiance was dead... Perhaps they had some screens left in the European stock (I'm from France)... Or perhaps next Envy's will have Radiance... Don't know.

The bad news is that I have bought a Radiance screen and now it's useless to me. It was a double or nothing bet. I feel very stupid :/

When someone's radiance screen dies then you will be able to make a nice profit by selling it to them. Radiance isn't coming back unless they found a new company to make them. I think they just had some left in stock.
