My uncle bought a HP DV9700 about 2 months ago and I've been playing around with it and noticed that the fan literally runs all the time and its pretty loud...The only time it doesn't run is when its not been used for a while or it has just been started up. It's sitting in a normal temprature room on a wooden table...

Anyone know anything about this? I tried searching.

    Thanks

Check the temps using HWMonitor and post them here. What BIOS version?

Good job. Alternatively you could also clean out the vents, that might help lower temps even more.

The temps are a little warm but still in the safe range

Make sure the intake vents arent blocked. I suggest raising the rear of your notebook by an inch or two. (use a book).

The ones underneath the laptop are the intake, the ones behind the laptop are output.
