He wanted to wait until Vista came out to buy this laptop for School. IT will be used basic and simple business stuff. The question is what about this Pentium Dual COre T2060 processor. The computer is pretty much "loaded". 120 HD, DVD Burner, Integrated 256 Intel Card (i am not a gamer so this might be OK) Remote control, Quick Media, etc. NOt a bad Laptop for $700. But waht about the processor? ANyone know what the main difference is vs the Centrion Duo Core and how it will affect my everyday use.? It seems that the cache is 1mb vs the centrino duo core? Will I see the difference? How about battery life? Heating issues, etc. THis seems to be a new chip because I can't find it anywhere. I have not open the box in case I have return it in order to get my money back. thanks

The processor is basically a standard Core Duo 2050, but only has half the cache and the strange name.

By the way, any way we can get you to upload some of the drivers out of the SwSetup directory somewhere? HP hasn't posted Vista drivers for the rest of us yet.

"HP hasn't posted Vista drivers for the rest of us yet." Are you saying that my old wireless mouse might not work with vista or my 1gb USB Sandisk is not going to work with Vista? All this stuff needs to be replaced? How about the antivirus software like mcaffe, will it work with Vista? I will more than happy to get you what you need once I open the box. I am jsut waiting to see if you guys think this processor is OK. Myabe Intel wants to go back to the Pentium name since Eveyone out there recognizes the name.

Your Sandisk flash drive will work without drivers... don't I worry about that. Your wireless mouse may or may not work -- depends on the technology it uses and whether or not drivers need to be installed, etc. Most DO work, but I can't say for sure without knowing which one. Check with that manufacturer's website to see if they have Vista drivers posted.

Most of your programs will work with Vista, but utility software like antivirus needs to be a version specifically designed for Vista. Your older versions won't work, but I'm sure HP preinstalled McAfee or something similar as a limited trial. That should give you time to decide if you want to pay and stick with that or get a different antivirus.

The processor naming is really strange. I read about it on another forum. It seems Intel just wanted it to be differentiated from the Core Duo processors that have the standard amount of cache. It should be plenty for your needs if you don't do a lot of gaming, and it sounds like you got a deal.

    Hope that helps.
