That is just surfing the web and I have the P7350.

I thought the 25watt 45nm processors ran cooler or does HP's laptop cooling suck this bad?

Your processor will probably heat up until it hits a certain temp and the system fan comes on, at which point it'll idle somwhere in the 50's depending on room temp, what kind of surface your laptop is placed on, if it's elevated\on a cooler etc.

50C idling is pretty high. But nothing to worry about. As long as it stays under 70C, you wont have any problems.

Yes, 45nm will usually run cooler than 65nm.

Well, dv5's are known to run a little hot. HP could have donr better with the dv5 cooling, like they did with thier last line (dv6000,dv9000, etc)

    I recommend Undervolting and/or a notebook cooler. ;)

Dv6000's and dv9000's didnt have good cooling systems if you ask me. dv5000's and dv8000's had good cooling systems. Instead of the heat having to travel along heat pipes to the fan the heatsink was right behind the processers location and blew across it.

Oh, they did in my experiences...

My dv9700t runs very cool and quiet. my CPU idles around 25C max 60C, GPU at 40-50C max 80C (usually 72C). So, i have no problems at all. Pretty much the same with my uncles dv6500t.

I never used a dv5000 or dv8000 to compare.

I'm going to suggest you get a cooler. There are a lot of reports about heated up dv5t's, my friend has one that can fry an egg sometimes.

OK... what the heck is going on!

3 minutes after booting HW Mon says my CPU is pushing 58°C.

Why the heck is this thing running so hot? the vents aren't blocked and the fan is running.

Have you checked your hwmonitorw.ini file to see if TjMax is set to 90C which is the thermal spec for a P7350?. If hwmonitor TjMax is set to 100C then it will be reading 10C high.

I've got the T9400 cpu. The lowest I've ever seen it idle was 38 degrees celcius with my cheap notebook cooler. It normally idles at around 45-50. I've seen it hit the 90's playing a game. The fan was roaring it's guts out but it's Tjmax is 105 I believe so it was still safe. Bam, invest in a cheap notebook cooler. I got mine for $10 AUS plus $10 shipping and it does a good job of cooling the notebook.

    THANK YOU!

After correcting the ini file the temps appear normal now, idling around 38°C.

    Use Coretemp to double check.
