Ordered on 24 Mar arrived 1/2 hour ago. Not sure about Vista SP1 but will give it a try.
Other than a clean install I intend to do later today (after burning recovery disks) any other recommendations on testing this sucker?

    T8300; 3GB; 240GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2)

nope...none come to mind. nothing at all..(looking at all the other dv9700 threads)... lol

best way to find out what it is going to do is load your favorite game up and get to playing...unless that game is solitary....then you might be in for a bit of trouble....lol

Start reading right at the top of the link below with flipfire's post. There are a few posts after that that will give you a lot of info on what to test and it's what I did for my DV9700T as well:

And here's a thread on wprime:

Also run a test through BIOS to test your hard drives and memory. Better to test everything you can while you're in your return period.

Ordered on Mar. 25, arrived at April 2nd, but we weren't there so it came the next day! I'm pretty happy with it

ALTHOUGH, is anyone getting some HEAT on the left palm-rest?

It was pretty warm when I was making a recovery disc AND installing some games at the same time (can this permanently damage the notebook)?

I want some people to reassure me on this, I'm very paranoid when I have new electronics; my laptop is also pretty fast, so I'm unsure about the heat

    Specs:

    Vista 64-BIT
    T9300 (Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz)
    4gb RAM
    512mb 8600m GS
    250gb 5400rpm

Yep, heat on the left palm rest is pretty normal with these (as the hard drive is directly beneath). Both my dv6400 and dv2200 also exhibit this.

You can run HD Tune and it should tell you the temp of your hard drive.....

Not really a good idea to be doing both of these things at once. The disk is in heavy use for both of them, which could easily cause the additional heat you were feeling, and also probably slowed both of those processed down dramatically. Only do one hard-disk-intensive thing at a time.

HD Tune is a good way to take a look at the temps on your drive.
