I was in the market to replace my old Satellite A10 which should be obsolete 3 yrs ago. I am a desktop used but have handled a quite amount of laptops of different brands.

I decided to pull the trigger on the DV5t because of the affordable price and impressive specs.

i had it since Sept.15 and did a backup disc and clean installation first time i boot it up cause i believe in "peeing in a clean refreshing toilet bowl" :D

so, while i was impressed with the specs, while reading the dv5t lounge forum, heat is to be expected. for some reason that doesnt make any sense, i thought the heat generated caused the wireless connection to be utterly slow.

to find out wheres the card was located, i decided to open the back up and found this (sorry for the blackout "thingy")

as you can see why i think the heat would cause the slow connection which still doesnt make any cow sense to me. i also blame the slow connection whenever my roommate uses the microwave.

also, the hard drive isnt screwed down. u just flip it to get access to the wireless card.

Now, comparing the DV5t to a Vaio (roommate's, i took it apart while she was asleep. Shhhhh !!!!!!!).

when i took off those back cover, i realized her freakin integrated graphic has a heat sink !!!!! no wonder the left side of my palmrest of the DV5t is heating up, it doesnt have a heat sink.

another Vaio design that i like is the wireless card is far away from the hard drive. 2 of these should not be on top of each other. Again, anything to blame the sudden slow connection.

also, if u not realize by now, theres no way to access to the DV5t heat sink and fan unlike the Vaio. i would luv to have access so that i can clean out any dandruff and dust that accumulated by the fan or the vent for that matter. maybe im still discovering the DV5t architecture. i just cant believe i like Vaio's design better.

i use my DV5t mainly for watching streaming videos, surf the web, online shopping, and expressing my opinions in different forums. I have another desktop which i play solitaire with using 8800GT in SLi mode.

    Thank you for reading.

HP poorly designed the pavilions when it comes to maintenance. Its a pain and a half just to get to the cpu/HSF

so it can be achieved? do we have to remove the whole back case to get access to the CPU ???

i was thinking of using the air can spraying the vent buy this will further blow the dust into the CPU instead of sucking it out.

    thoughts?

The back panel(base), and the keyboard. You can use compressed air, but it's at best a temporary workaround. I suggest opening the case up, and using AS5 on the CPU/GPU. It'll take a lot of work, but the results should be worth it.

Eeek! Is that why the display models at best buy feel way hotter than the other models on display?

last evening i had a problem with the laptop. goes like this..

All of a sudden, i heard a whirring noise from the heatsink area, later on i felt vibrations throughout the touchpad and its sides where we rest our palms. I immediately shut it down to open it today morning, the noise wasnt there, but am still feeling the little tingling sensations from the HD maybe, which were non existent till date! what could be the problem???
