yep you should be able to do that....

hp does offer a service and maintenance manual. in there you will find the proceudres on how to disassemble and repair your notebook.

may i ask what region do you live in ?
you can order spare parts from some big internet shops, or from hp. it would help a little if you could tell us where you live.

    wow !

so is it only the hinge that is broken ?
i can´t see that too well.

maybe you can have a closer look and see if there is something broken in the lcd chassis?

in the service and mainenance guide i have posted you will have to look at removal procedures and -> display assembly ( 5- 30)

on page 5-39 you will see how the hinges are disassembled. of course you will have to disassemble the lcd before.

    and another question ...

how about the exact model number of the dv5000 you owe?

there seem to be differences among the featured models.

well, it seems it is an asian model, i could only find standard parts for it at hp.

    http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/partsdirectory/buy.htm

if you do not find anything at hp, you would need to search for internet shops that have the hinge for your dv 5000t

well, gotta leave for work now....

    good luck.
