Ok. I will try to make this as brief as possible. Also, I hope I am posting this in the right section.
Last week I called HP Tech support to complain about what I thought to be a bad video card. Every night as I would game, I would get BSOD and after restarting, windows would say my video hardware failed. I tried everything under the sun software wise with 0 success. So I called tech support and did the usual 1 hour shuffle of download this, turn off that etc. Finally, they agreed that it must be a hardware issue and issued me a repair order and mailed me a box to overnight my envy to them for repairs.
The next day my box arrived and I was packaging my envy 14 up to ship out, when I got a call from a tech. engineer with HP. He said he was from their research and development team and wanted to talk to me about my bad experiences with my envy. To make a long story short, he wanted to get his hands on my machine so he could run a bunch of test on it etc. to make sure they don't continue to put out bad computers. In exchange, he made me a heck of an offer.
In exchange for my current system:
I5-450
4 gigs ram (2 dims)
320g 7200 rpm drive
(everything stock except the 450 upgrade)
He offers me:
I5-540 (I checked their site and I don't even see this one offered, but none the less it's here on my desk with a 540)
8 gigs of ram
256 SSD
Slice battery(This thing is heavy lol)
It arrived this morning and I am about as happy as can be. I got a huge amount of upgrades because I took the time to deal with tech support before just throwing in the towel and RMAing. I wish all you guys going through envy 14 issues to be patient and use every avenue of approach. I have no idea what I did to be one of the lucky guys picked, but none the less, my new machine was here in less than 4 days. Now I just have to go pack up my original machine and send it back to them within 72 hours.

wow that is amazing lol
enjoy your new super envy! -
haha Thx. I am doing a clean install atm, and have never been on an ssd computer before, so needless to say I am excited.
-
so hp's finally doing what dell does routinely with their throttling studio xps 1640s? HP should be doing this will all their faulty envy's, especially the ones from the first batch that whine and had physical damage. Still, it's an improvement considering HP usually has horrible customer service. I'm glad they're doing something to try to fix the hardware issues.

Congrats...definitely envious of your new envy ;-)
-
Awesome, congrats!
Now can you do me a HUGE favor and run Crystal Disk Info and tell me if it shows TRIM enabled. It'll be black text in the middle after the heading: "Supported Features". If text is gray then it does not. Just trying to get some ammunition for myself and others to get an SSD with TRIM support.
Can you also vote at this poll: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/505396-all-samsung-256gb-ssd-owners-firmware-trim.html
Thanks. -
WOW! You don't get lucky like that every day. Congrats.
-
Ty fellas for the kind words. This beaut is a monster compared to my last. I ran the test and no, the Trim is not enabled
-
Damn. That would run you maybe double the price the one you had previously.
-
I had same overheating problems, with my model was i7 720qm...
-
-
I think they only want to do that if there's a major problem with graphics or something.
-
I'm sure OP got lucky. They probably were told to get ahold of the next laptop with a certain issue and root cause to fix the issue, and in return give them something better. While he got lucky, and I'm happy for him, it sucks that the rest of us are just their test bed instead of doing more thorough and diligent testing ahead of time.

HP should send you all T-shirts that say, "I survived HP's beta test" on the front and "Don't Envy me, bro" on the back. -
Really wish I was not the only one
I def. feel like I hit the lottery on this one, but it isn't fair that sooo many others are having issues just as serious or worse than mine was.

You know, like, I'll delete your posts or edit them so everything is backwards and upside down if you post in the owner's thread. Tell everyone to ignore you. That sort of thing.

Four days is too short to get a new notebook manufactured. I'm wondering if you received an RMA unit with HP thinking it would be cheaper for them to "please" you instead of waiting for them to dump it on a refurb sale.
Good you're happy. -
It came out of Houston, Texas, the new one did. Research and development must be in Houston because they called it in Friday, and it arrived yesterday. I am also shipping the broken one back to Houston. I have it boxed up and it goes out tomorrow.
-
Did they also give you 500 dollars?
