    I have 2 problems

1- the electricity cable has been blugged in now for abt an hour and a half (instructions say plug it in before u start the laptop for the 1st time), and the bottom of the laptop is v v warm , on the upper face, it is warm left and right on the silver area , is that normal that it gets hot while charging? does it have anything to do with the fact that i am using 12 cell battery ?

2- it found my wireless, but unable to surfe the net as if something is preventing the browser from surfing, also when it detected my wireless network it says "connected with limited access", did anybody have experienced this msg before?

    i appreciate any help
it is v dissapointing when something like this happens u know !

    regards

    dalimoh

are you using a wireless router? if so then perhaps you have restricted the IP range in the router to a certain number and all other PCs in the are have taken the addresses up?

hmm on second thought check the Ip address, if it says DHCP then the router is working fine. on XP if it said limited connection then something was wrong but on Vista it says this but the connection is fine (perhaps cuz we are all still using the older IP address versions)

if u cant surf the net then try a network/connection wizard to connect to a device that is always on. other factors could be your antivirus software is blocking all internet traffic, check the firewall, it maybe in lockdown mode or something

Get Notebook hardware control or Speedfan and check the temps of your harddrive/s and CPU. your hard drive/s which are under the touchpad usually have a tolerance upto 55C depending on the specs. also make sure the vents on the bottom are not closed up

I would check the temperatures of the hard disk and processor, because it is likely, that if they are high, they are also causing the notebook to become warm underneath and on top of the notebook. It is unlikely that the temperature of the notebook is being caused by the battery. That would affect the charging time of the battery, but not the actual notebook.

There will be a vent on the underside of the notebook, and under there will be a fan. I that gets blocked, thn no air will be able to pass to the heatsink. That will mean that some of the components will get hot, and the notebook surface will also get hot. The same applies for the outlet vents, that are placed on the side of the notebook. Try not to block them, and use the notebook on a hard surface.

take for example having the laptop on your lap may have closed the up the vents at the bottom, the hard drive produces heat and that needs to escape somehow. put the laptop on a cool flat surface and monitor the temps. ive got a dv9000 and yeah the area around the touchpad gets quite warm, hasnt caused a problem for me so far

yeah i know they call em laptops but sometimes these days you cant put them on your lap lol

lol, yeah i was having it on my bed for the past 2 .5 hrs, but its 12 batter is fat so it raises its back, i dnt think the bed ws preventing air from recycling
anyway i put it a flat glass table now, and see what happens

by the way how do i get info abt temperature of harddrive and fan?

You can check the temperature of the hard disk or processor using a program like NHC (Notebook Hardware Control, which is recommended), or use a program called Speedfan. Either will do fine, however Speedfan can make it a little confusing to see which temperatures belong to which component.

Those temperatures are fine. They are actually quite low. Anyway, try shutting the notebook down for a bit of time, and then restart and begin to use, but this time on a hard surface where the fans can cool the components properly.

A temperature of 100 C plus, would physically damage the process and render it useless. Way before that happens, you would encounter stability issues and the notebook would crash. At that point, the processor has a little time to cool, but it would continue to crash until the temperature stabilised. Most notebooks automatically turn themselves off, before they get to a high temperature of 80 C, where some instability can occur.

My Dv6000 heats very warm on the left palm side on top after prolong use. I think this is normal but it could be better not have a built in heat pad for your palms.

    BE CAREFUL WITH SPEEDFAN!!!

The latest version I believe has the wrong offset values for the intel core 2 duo's. I run the previous version of speedfan and I believe it's accurate. I tried using the new version and the temperatures it reported were not right, they were too cool. I had let my laptop sit for a couple hours turned off and when I booted up and loaded the new version it reported my cpu temps as being 65 degrees F. Room temp was about 70. After running for awhile they settled right to where yours are reporting, about 28C or so. I think they are using the wrong offset values for what the CPU is reporting. If you step back one version you'll see the difference.
