I have a dv200 Pavillion with Vista. Vista is broken and also I lost the code in the MBR (sector 001 on the hard drive). So I popped in the recovery DVD I made back when I bought the computer. The system boots, the progress bar shows Windows loading files for a minute or two, then the screen turns the normal desktop color. It displays an ERROR message:
THIS PC IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THE SYSTEM RECOVERY DISKS. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECOVER THIS SYSTEM WITH THESE DISKS.
Actually it is only a single DVD disk because I used a dual layer DVD so it would fit on a single disk. I think the disk should work. I don't remember exactly, but I probably booted with with it right after I created it and verified that I displayed a user menu of some sort. Therefore, I think it now doesn't like my system for some reason. It sees something it doesn't like.
MY QUESTION: has anybody here ever heard of this problem with recovery disks ? I'm interested to learn everything I can about this situation and also about recovery disks and partitions.
TIA. Bill S.
