i've noticed they always remove the 30% off when the 6 month no payment promotion is on. Atleast recently this is how they have been going. Dam hp!

My understanding is that coupons have both an expiry and limited quantity and are taken off whenever the first of these two is reached

This is correct. In this case, the coupon was deactivated due to its quantity limit being reached as of 11/30/07.

I would personally avoid using the student discount if I had a choice between that and a 30% off coupon. I have waited since late September to make a HP dv6500t purchase for this very reason. In my eyes, the student discount, while nice, just doesn't compete with a 30% off coupon.

If I remember correctly, the highest discount you can obtain with a student discount (discounting diminishing returns) is approximately 13-16%. I would encourage you to be paitient and wait until the 30% coupon is active once more. I did, and it took about two months of waiting before I was able to get mine with the coupon.

Yea but im looking to spend about 700-800, and my current config saves me 17% with the 100 dollar discount. So its not like im buying a 1500 dollar laptop trying to save 450. What about preconfiged systems, there looks like some good deals at Buy.com, Circuit City, or Best Buy, any opinions would helpful.

preconfiged systems doesnt come with things you may want, like i wanna have a Fingerprint Reader, older graphic card or something like that, because that are pre buited a few months before comparing to hp home, they cost more that way. also my idea is that you have to pay for not only hp but also for Circuit City, bestbuy, etc.

Anyways the coupon was deactivated due to its quantity limit being reached, and hp home said the same thing.
    thanks garetjax.

i was also told by an HP rep that the coupons are also limited to your zip code (meaning that there are only a certain number available per area)

do they always promo free shipping? or is it gonna end?
How often do they come out a 30% off coupon? any experience tells you that? in general, would laptop will be much cheaper right after x'mas, or they would stop promotions?(other then 30% off they still have 75% off ram etc.)

They are doing that free skins thing, which i think is stupid, anyway, if you go to the site where you pick the free skins, it asks you to pick your model, and it shows the holiday models and spring models, so I am just guessing here, but it seems they are gonna introduce a few new models in the spring, ether prebuilt or customizable. So I would guess that the current holiday models would be on sale.

The HD and Memory sale has changed about 4 times in the last month, but its all about the same, that you can get a 120 GB HD and 2 GB DDR2 for about 25-50 dollars more with some combination of the two.

I dont think I am waiting around for another sale, I am just getting a dv6500t, Duo 2, 1.5, 2 GB DDR, 120 GB HD, Fingerprint scanner for 700.

well, ya the free skin thing is useless, but i feel like the free shipping will end soon... or it always stays there?

or they will upgrade something inside this model soon?

I have been shopping for a new notebook for about 5 weeks now, and the free shipping has always been there.

I remember on the skin site that the spring models were numbers that had the last two numbers something other than zero, like dv6678, which means its a preconfiged model, the customizables all end in 2 zeros, like dv6500, so

I mean it looks like they are just introduce more updated preconfiged models. So I would love to wait around for them to go on sale more or another coupon code, I just dont wanna risk losing what deal they have now. No one will tell you what they are gonna do, even if you call and ask how long their current promotions will last, they say they cant tell you anything.

    THE 30% COUPON WORKS!!

I just spent the last hour on the phone with HP, canceling my order from last night and ordering up a better system with the discount. The reps have no idea that it works, so be consistent. My rep had to go back to his supervisor 2 times and came back to me 2 times saying it doesnt work. I told him to open IE and try it for yourself. So yes, only the higher up supervisors know that it works.

An hour on the phone just saved me 320 bucks, ha.

    Just ordered dv6500t:
    -Vista Premium Home
    -Core Duo 2 2.0 ghz
    -2 GB DDR2
    -120 GB HD

for $704, ha, what a deal.

Good Luck everyone, cuz you can hear the phones going crazy in the background.
