That's a really good deal, thanks for posting! My perfect combination of the newest dv6t would look like this, the price is really ridiculously low, $1048.54

Where did you get the option to get the 7200RPM 750GB drive? I only get to choose between the 1TB 5400RPM drive and the overpriced SSD. =/

Hp changes the configuration options around daily, it's an hp thing who knows why they do it. But I assume its because they "attempt" to update the site by what is reported to be in stock from china.

Okay gotcha. It's been like that for a little while though =/ but now that I think about it, the SSD may not be that overpriced with the coupon since 33% off of $200 for the 160GB SSD is $134, which is only $0.84/GB. But now the question is, exactly what SSD does HP put in their laptops?

It's very unlikely that hp would spring for a sata3 ssd. It seems like an ok deal but since it's confirned that the new dv6's support sata3, buying a sata3 with available benchmarks and a 3 year warranty (which most have) would still be a way better bet than opting for a hp mystery ssd.

That makes sense. Do you think just getting the 1TB drive and installing an SSD later is worth the price difference over getting the 1TB drive with the 32GB cache and possibly getting a 7200RPM drive later?

Yeah dude ssd later all the way, 5400, 7200, mssd is all crap. Buy a sata3 ssd with the savings. Also if you're planning to use this coupon do it fast because it supposedly has a 900 redemption's limit on it.

Where do these coupons come from, I'm hoping to get HP customer support to add it on after the fact but they always ask where I got it from, worked for me last time when I said I got it off an e-mail.

Though I just got word from HP that they're going to reactivate it, likely at midnight tonight. At some point it's going to be active again this weekend. For those that didn't act last time, I suggest doing so when it's back before it goes again.

So tempted to return my dv6 and get the dv7 .. with tax 25.00 dollars more than what i paid for my dv6.

    Pros
Bigger screen , 1gb more video ram , Room for a second HD will eventually get a ssd and then i will never have to worry about space.

    Cons
Slower HDD would be going from the 750 gb hybrid 7200rpm to a 1tb 5400 rpm till i can eventually get a ssd

what to do... what to do..

A few questions before pulling the trigger on either the DV7T or the DV6T.

-I heard HPs get incredibly hot, although that can't really be prevented is there a difference in temp between the DV7T or the DV6T? Also which one is easier to open up for thermal paste?
-Is there a difference between the 1920x1080 on either the DV7T and DV6T?
-What are your guy's Diablo 3 experience with the GT 650m 2GB/1GB

    Thanks

with diablo 3 my dv6 with the upgraded screen and only 1gb video ram .. I see about 80c on the cpu .. have not installed something that reads the gpu temps. It runs great no issues there.

I am going to return mine though and get the dv7 ..

but i am having a hard time deciding .. 1tb 5400 rpm with the mssd or the 750gb 7200 rpm hybrid?

but i will eventually be getting an ssd .. so maybe the mssd is not the way to go.

Hmm 80c is a little high, on average the Ivy Bridge i7 was supposed to run cooler under load, lingering around 70-72. Do you happen to have Turbo Boost enabled?

The dv6 tends to get hotter than the dv7 because there is less room for cooling, I know this to be true because in my experience with the 6000 series the dv7's always stayed cooler.

The construction is the same in the dv6/7 so opening them up will be the exact same process.

I can't tell you if there is any difference between the screens, besides size everyone seems to agree they both look great.

Any D3 experience will end up getting better as time goes by and the game becomes more optimized so take any benchmarks with a grain of salt.

Well this is coming from an m14x-r2 which I later returned to Dell due to a few defects. But the GT 650m is a really good GPU for its price. On current benches for both the DDR3/DDR5 version D3 should run at around 45-60fps on max @ 1920x1080. My only concerning regarding this laptop is the heat issue which seems to be the major complain with HP laptops. However with a 2 year warranty I should be well protected until its time to buy another one.

Imo it is only useful for gaming, for instance if you have a ps3 controller it will link up with your computer via bluetooth.

The only bad part is i guess i jumped the gun on calling them about returning the laptop i have now. They only give you 5 days to print the label and not sure how long the label is good for .. but estimated shipping on my new one is the 29th.. so i guess i will be without a laptop for a week or so..

People have been reporting that their laptops are shipping and arriving sooner than quoted by HP.
