I recently tried to connect a VGA adapter to my nc2400 for a presentation I was to give. It went well until I connected the AC Adapter. When I did, sparks flew and the notebook died. I contacted the mfg of the VGA adapter and they had never had something like this happen. Further, an electrician checked out the power source coming from the outlet and did not detect any abnormalities. Any thoughts on what could have caused this?

Exactly where were the sparks coming from? The notebook itself? The power adapter? Someplace else?
All I can think of is either static or a short-circuit somewhere. To be honest though, I'm not really sure. -
It actuall happened twice. The first time, the lapton was connected to the VGA adapter while on battery power and it worked fine. As soon as I connected the DC power cable, sparks came from where the power cable connects to the laptop. The second time (loaner), the laptop was already connected to DC power, but as soon as I tried to connect the VGA adapter, the sparks came from the port where the adapter connects. Thanks

Also, I had a flash drive connected moments before, but it wasn't connected when the incident took place.
