Hello to all. I was recently looking at some IBM Thinkpads and I found this by accident. It seems to be a refurb NC4400 that has one year of HP warranty. It sports a 2GHz Core Duo (T2500), 2 GB RAM, and XP Pro. The cost is $625 shipped. Keep in mind that I want to do light gaming and listen to audio. Will this unit feed the purpose? If not, where else should I look for a multimedia/gaming friendly, business based cheap laptop?

    Thanks :)

It's got the infamous GMA 950 :) The res is only 1024x768, so I guess it will be OK?

I hate the fact that it isn't widescreen, it's res is XGA, and it has only one speaker. Basically almost the opposite of what I want, but the price is cheap and the build should be classic HP business quailty. I am just wondering if that one speaker is adequate for music.

All in all, it's an OK deal. $625 for a biz class laptop is pretty good. But it is a bit out of date. And doing much of any gaming on a GMA 950 is gonna be hard.

I'll live without gaming on it, I've got a desktop. I still wonder about the speaker.

Do you think widescreen is very advantageous? I prefer it...

It's a matter of opinion. I could go either way.

The funny thing is, the NC2400, which I guess is the wide version of this, costs $300 more. Oh well, we can't have everything I guess. Do you know if HP refurbs come with new batteries? Do you know anything about the sound quality? And, do you think CSS can be done on the GMA 950?

For now, it looks like I may have to stick with machines in this budget range.

Is it possible to score a 8510w for around a grand? With coupons or anything of the such?

    Thanks.
