It has all the stuff I want for a laptop:
    1. Decent graphic card - ATI 9600 (for light gaming)
    2. Battery Life about 5-6 hrs
    3. Weight is 5.5lb (Important, since I'm planning to carry this in my campus)
    4. Received a good review in CNET and other sites (it even got an editor's choice!)

This was my target since I started looking for a laptop but the new model price is out of my budget (around $1500)... but now I found one that is around that but the catch is it's REFURBISHED

    http://www.mpsuperstore.com/Computer/discr74978.htm?Chksource=cnet

The store seems to be pretty decent, but I DONT have any good experience with refurbished products (last time I order a refurbished MX700 mouse from another store they sent me a 220 volt adapter).

QUESTION #1: How good are refurbished laptops?

    QUESTION #2:
If that is not a good choice... is there any laptop out there with at least the following stuff:
    1. Good battery life 3-4
    2. Weight 5-6lb
    3. Dedicated video card

    Thanks for any suggestions!

for refurbs from HP they have to be factory recertified so it's been back to HP and they've tested it and verified it. I'm not sure what the warranty is on this though, it doesn't specify (if it's one year, 3 months, whatever). You've got a major savings there though, i just checked out the price of this notebook new ( link to nc6000 at HPShopping.com) and see it's $1500+ and the config is very basic with only 256MB RAM and a 30GB Hard Drive so the refurb will get you a lot more. I'd look more into the warranty and if it's a at least a year then if you're on a budget or just want more bang for the buck then this refurb might suit you.

    Awesome units... I bought two!

In May and early June there seemed to all these nc6000's selling on forum sites and eBay. (Pls. see below).

Both units were sealed in pristine boxes (no removed labels & such). Plus, I have registered them both w/ HP Canada for full 3-yr warranty. Even the HP CSP's were shocked that I got the units for half the price.

Btw, I would like to add that, though I have friends who have experienced nightmares w/ Compaq-HP warranty/support (and have heard even worse), I have had nothing but great service over the years.

New or refurb, HP has always pulled through. W/ both consumer products & business products I've owned - HP has overnighted (Toronto to Vancouver) service shipments, replaced parts worth more than 50% of replacement value, etc. Gee, I better knock on wood, or a tree for that matter...

(After re-reading thread, this isn't really relevant)

I'm running a whole office full of refurbed eMachines and look forward to picking up 3-5 refurbed HP (desktops). I have had problems w/ new product and ironically never w/ a refurb unit.

Though I wouldn't worry much about refurbs (great deals!), I would suggest you look around should any of these new nc6000's are still selling somewhere...

    Good luck!
