I have a new NC6220 laptop with XGA screen that I find very poor quality contrast and resolution and extreemly bad when running on batteries. My question to this forum is there any NC6220 users that have XGA+ screens and are you happy with the contrast and resolution? Also wondering if the XGA screen can be changed out to XGA+?

Yes, you can change screens, but it is a very lengthy process, time consuming and you need to make sure the new screen you are installing is compatible with the motherboard. It's really probably not worth your money to swap the LCD out.

If your machine is still under warranty, you could complain to HP and see what they have to say about it.

Once you're past the 21 day return window it's unlikely Hp would swap the screen /unit out... You may luck out on that but I doubt that unless the screen is truely defective that they'd swap it out... and if they do they will more than likley swap it out for the same resolution screen as the unit shipped with. (YMMV)

To the OP, if you're within the 21 day return window if purchased direct from HP, return it and reorder with the higher resolution screen. Ditto if you ordered it elsewhere.

To the OP, stupid question but I would assume you've adjusted the brightness while on battery? I've got a nx6325 RB526UT#ABA and it looks just fine and it has the base screen.

Also, try disabling any Ambient Light Sensors through BIOS. That might help.

If you are past the 21 day return policy, you could always request a replacement screen. They aren't always made by the same company so you might get a different brand of LCD.

This information is based on what? I would think if one explained to HP the screen is very dim, the contrast is poor and it is hard to read they would at least consider a replacement. It sounds defective to me.

Here is what I have found so far.... The suggestion of disabling the "Ambient Light Sensor" has helped a lot. I still find that this screen quality is not very good when you are running on on batteries. IMO, this was a cost vs. quality decision. IMO it is a shame that HP would sell a lower grade corporate laptop and it turns me away from their products as a consumer!

FYI - You can disable the sensor from Start|Control Panels|Quick Launch Buttons|Advanced|Enable Ambient Light Sensor check box (un-check it).
