Are you sure, the lid seems some sort of alloy to me. Cold to the touch (unlie the other plastic components, like the silver plastic covering the hinge, or the white plastic over the latches.
-
nc8230 and nc8430 are my company issued laptops and they have plastic lids. The plastic is rough and feels durable and is rather hard to scratch up but it's plastic nontheless.
-
The nc8430's lid is magnesium alloy. Disassemble it and you'll see.
-
I'm pretty sure the nc8000s have metal lids. I'll have to check with the seniors at my school to verify this (they all have nw8000s).
-
Agreed. Lids of 82xx series and 84xx series are magnesium alloy.
-
the lid is alloy -
UPDATE: I just checked with the local help desk at my school. The Lid is PLASTIC, NOT metal/alloy. It feels cold to the touch due to the paint used on it. The hinges are metal, at least.
-
That's only the nc8000 you're referring to right? I've never really worked on them before.

I'm 95% sure its metal. Its not a superficial cold feeling, the lid gets REALLY cold in cold temp
EDIT: Something funny: google either "nc8000 metal" or "nc8000 lid" -

It's not that hard.

Awesome Dreamer, we all missed it

Well, I guess the local help desk at my school was wrong
. After all, the last time they replaced my power adapter, they managed to screw up my graphics card drivers as well :/.
