I have been thinking about upgrading from XPpro to WIN7. I have the following laptops in my sig below. Do you think its worth upgrading? 64 Bit version. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

No problems
Definitely worth it.
I've used Win7 on both, however I did later reinstall XP on the nc8430 as it actually runs a little bit cooler and I need one XP machine for testing. -
Hey Guys,
Sorry to bring up an otherwise dead thread.... but I've got an NC8430 running XP.
I currently use NHC to undervolt and change the fan speed setpoints.
I'm thinking about changing to W.7 because I get a free license through school, and I've heard it works better with SSDs.
I know NHC won't work, but have either of you run across anything else to change the fan speed setpoints? According to this guy, it can be done in Vista. I wonder if it would work in Windows 7.
Also, any issues with drivers?
Thanks!

has anyone found a compatible driver for the nc8430 for windows 7?
-
Yes.
(unless you tell us what driver you are missing, it's pretty hard to tell you what you need) -
Update (and for Samov):
I ended up trying out Windows 7 (pro 64) last night...
I was able to find enough drivers from using the drivers for Vista64 on hp's nc8430 drivers site.
I ended up messing it up by installing ATI Tray Tools...It really didn't like that, so I'm back on XP for now, but will eventually retry w7.
Jeff -
I just installed Win7 32bit, ATI x1600 drivers came from Windows Update. They are dated 1.12.2008 but work and I could enable Aero after that.
After first Windows Update run, there's still 4 devices without drivers:
Fingerprint Sensor
Card Reader
Modem
3d Driveguard
All but driveguard should work with Vista drivers. -
I finally got around to trying it out. It works perfectly for adjusting % fan speeds. However, I can't find where to adjust the temperature setpoints in the dsdt file....anyone have any insight?
Thanks,
Jeff -
Just go find a newer laptop on the HP site and looks at its drivers, you will find what you are missing aside from the ATI drivers.
Here is one I quickly pulled up.
