    Hi,
Just checked HP site in Switzerland this morning to get info about the NC8430 and it has disappeared and is no longer offered. Remains the NW8440.

After a phone call to HP Store Europe, they told me that the 8440 is the one to go for now and that they don't have information yet about a new model that should replace the 8430.

Does anybody know anything? From any rumor mill?
Does this mean one should wait for a new model before Xmas???

    Thanks for any info.
    Steve

Yes I know it's still available in some stores, but no more by HP Store...
So I guess I'll be waiting a couple of weeks to see what comes out.

Omg! Please don't tell me the nc8430 will be replaced because I just put an order for it and it hasn't even been delivered. I would wait for a new model if indeed there will be one. Is it possible for HP for hold my cash until a new model comes out? It costs a fortune here and I wouldn't want to end up getting an "old" model.
Is this generally a poor time to buy a HP laptop? I notice HP refreshes its line every 6 months or so. Is it a good idea to cancel my order? HP apparently charges 15% restocking fee if I cancel.

    Chris,
I don't know whether there will be a new line of products. On the phone here in Switzerland, 3 weeks ago, they told me that the 9420 model I was at that time interested in would be a bit different in "mid-November"... So I don't know if this means that a full new line or new versions of those laptops are due soon.
Maybe call'em and check. If you find someone nice and honest (s)he will tell you the truth.
HP didn't tell me that the 9420 would not be there anymore, but they told me the product number will be different. This usually means that the configuration will be diffrerent.
So maybe, the same thing happened to the nc8430. Don't know.

Ok, I ran into the same situation. HP just e-mailed me that they are substituting my order with a different model number of same configuration. Then e-mailed me 1 hour later saying that they "found" a unit for me, so no substitute taking place. Should I be concerned? It's the same specs afaik.

I thought the nc8340 is a relatively new model? Does this mean hp is going to replace most of their models soon? Argh..maybe it's not a good time to buy hp models. Was planning to get the nw8440 sometime next month.

I don't think a new model will be released before Santa Rosa, so this might just be a seasonal thingy. I'm taking delivery of mine today.

Just as an info, the nc8430 has reappeared on the Swiss site as available 3-4 weeks. I'm ordering it today. So the product doesn't seem to be discontinued.

because the x1700 and FIREGL V5250 are the replacing the x1600 and v5200,and thats the only thing thats worth changing in this model ,makers like Asus and lenovo are shifting to the new cards, but thats all just a guess
