So has anyone done some benchmarks to see if there really is a difference in the performance of the SD card reader?

Has anyone noticed any change in the fan with the update. I seem to be hearing mine a lot less. So I'm wondering if there was a decrease in fan speed.

I'm still using F45 BIOS that my dv9774 came with. Mines got the Centrino Duo. I think my fan runs nicely, it actually is off a lot when I am just browsing the net. It kicks on once in a while. It runs quite slow, unless I have a video or something intense going on, then it ramps up for a minute.

I checked at HP drivers for my model and read that in F51 they say: Enhancements: Updates the fan-control algorithm for the system to reduce the likelihood of future system issues.

Of course I've never bothered with any BIOS update because I've never had any issues.

Wasn't the fan algorythm changed specifically for the AMD systems (hotter)? I'd hate to put this latest F59 BIOS and have my fans running a lot more and a lot faster!

Whizzard...what BIOS did you have when your fans were on more?

    Hi

I've just upgraded my dv9689ea (dv9500 series) running Vista 64 bit Sp1 and the result is a dead laptop.

Please take care performing BIOS upgrades.

There's a good link related to what to do next here http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service...447627+1237641641874+28353475&threadId=974719

I've raised an issue with HP and shall wait for their response first though.

This is the first time I've ever experienced an issue performing a BIOS upgrade (I've been working in I for 25 years now) and it's not a nice feeling.

Please keep us up to date on your issue. I looked on your product's page and it says that you can indeed upgrade to this BIOS revision. Does the computer even turn on? If it does, does the computer give you any beeps or LED blinking that indicates an error?
