I ordered a new dm1z from HP last week. I had a 25 dollar coupon and ordered the one with the k125 single core. After I ordered I realized I wanted the dual core k350 processor but HP would not modify the order.. ( I called 10 min after the order was placed. If I reordered they said I would lose my coupon. If I keep the order they said they would knock another 20 dollars off. So I keep the order.

Today I received the dm1z and the door covering the HD/memory was bowing and not seated.. screws on one side with the tabs sticking out on the other side and not seated at all!. I unscrewed the door and reseated the tabs but there was a huge gap.. Looked like they had reworked the darn thing and everything inside was not flush anymore.. I could see the internals from the side through the bowing door.. It was the worse visual defect I have ever seen leaving a manufacturer. I mean you could see the defect from across the room and the door was permanently warped. Obviously, who ever assembled this in China was in a hurry, knew the defect and shipped it any way. Further, no casual QC could have possibly been done on this. I still can't believe they shipped something out this bad.

Anyway, I was trying to seat the battery and it was not going in.. I did not even try since I knew I would not keep it. I boxed it right up and called HP. I did not even fire it up even once. I was not a happy camper. After calling 3 times and being disconnected (without a call back and they did have my number!) I finally got a supervisor and they will ship another system, including my initial discounts with the upgraded processor I wanted in the first place which I agreed I would pay for.

I need this for a trip and if it comes after Dec 2 it will be returned to HP.. They cannot say for sure when it will ship. My question is how long does HP take to ship out replacements? They also said free 2 day business air. I'm hoping 2 weeks will be enough time.

Anyway, not really feeling good about HP these days. And there is no excuse for that horrible defect they deemed shippable.

I'd say less than a week from HP shipping it for it to get to your door. 2 day air can be a little misleading due to the time to build the machine, and even customs can delay your shipment

I think they also need to receive the defective notebook first which I shipped out last Thursday. They probably get it tomorrow and hopefully I will have it on time.. Will be going to Fiji for two weeks on the 2nd so its going to be a close one.

My HDX BD RW drive also crapped out on me last week right after warranty of course. HP parts wanted 329 dollars for a new drive plus shipping. Which of course, is completely insane. I talked to a case manager and got that price down to 250 dollars.. total.. which also included overnight shipping.. and I got the dang thing in less then 24 hours.. and it was a Mata drive which was much nicer.. so HP is making me happy again.
