So I just bought my laptop on April 1 (estimated to ship on the 29th [what the heck]) and I have a few questions:
1) I have an intel i5-480m (2.66ghz) processor and a 500GB 7200 rpm Hard drive... Will this make my computer hot?
2) Is the intel HD Graphics okay for light gaming?
-
*light gaming like Minecraft (maybe black ops)
-
i believe you purchased an i-core processor: not 2ng generation (sandy bridge) processor. those dont have integrated graphics on the die. depending on what graphics card it has, i believe it can effortlessly run minecraft but black ops is questionable.
if you accidentally bought the first gen while intending to purchase the second gen, id suggest you return it and place a new order in favor of the better processor.
sandy bridge laptops typically have a 4 number and 2 letter model code.
ex:
Intel Core i7-2820QM (Sandy Bridge, has Intel Integrated Graphics)
Intel Core i7-940X (Not sandy bridge). -
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-480M Dual Core Processor (2.66GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
that is the processor, Intel HD Graphics comes seperately -
Thanks for the help by the way. and do you have any info on the heat thing?
-
i did some research (your post really worried me
) I found out that the intel i5-480m is a second generation of the i5 processors. yayy
-
I think you are mistaken look here. Under the chart showing the mobile processors the model numbers are all 2XXX. You have purchased the last-gen processor but you will still have integrated graphics just not on the same die as the processor.
-
your process is def. first gen 30% slower than the new sanybridge processors. dv5t does not have the second gen processors in their laptops yet.
-
Yup... will that affect any performance? like heat problems, speed multitaking?
-
yes, all three unfortunately from tests.

has all you need to know about the difference between the first and second gen. -
How much did you pay for it? Right now there is a 33% off coupon for the new dv6tqe with second generation processors. just cancel your order and buy the new one.
