    Released on 3/23/07

These seemed to fix the bug where it would only have 3 bars for your Wireless signal. Mine is now at full. :)

I just installed it, but After a reboot, its only giving me a 68%. When I first installed it, it did give me a 99%, i'm a foot away from the router.. so work still needs to be done..

now I look at it, and its 99% again, it should be 100. seems like it takes a long time to give a correct number.. like it's not in real time.

Guys, help me out here. I have read the intel proset drivers will slow you down compared the the windows drivers. Or am I thinking of the intel nterface over the windows interface.

What are you using to interface with?

illmatic 8 - Thanks for the tip - fixed my 3-bar syndrome also. I am only using the Vista interface - no problems connecting or with throughput. I only had the 3-bar problem.

Thanks a lot. I was wondering why I was always seeing 3 bars although I was pretty close to my router :) Earned a good karma ;)

I appreciate the link also. Downloaded and now have the full complement of bars since I'm 10 feet away from the router.

    Me Too! Thanks.

It has more properties to work with than the HP setup too.

With only 1 bar, I wondered how I could surf off of my neighbors wireless and he being 100 feet away at least. It's now 3 bars and mine is pegged now coming from 3 to 4 bars.

But does it do anything for range or just a bar fix?

I don't think it has anything to do with range. Before the fix, I took my computer to my neighbor's at least 200 feet away and surfed on my router. The range was fine, but the bars were locked at 3. Now, at least, a more accurate bar indicator is given (unless it's stuck at five! ;)).

BTW, my old Belkin wireless card setup showed reception with percentages. Is there a way to get that with the Intel wireless?

too bad this doesn't help with the SLOW file transfer between networked share drives in VISTA. It took me 1:34 hr:min to copy a 500mb file across a wireless G network

k, I'm getting 99% too now. Odd that we are all getting 99% all of a sudden. I'm in a less then optimal location and still getting 99%. Hmm.

I get like 60% when I'm downstairs, so don't think it's a bug or anything that automatically keeps it at 99%

It may be something specific to Sony but these drivers after a while seem to produce a boatload of errors in the eventlog and end up turning off my Wireless to the point where I have to reboot Vista to get it working again.

Seems to be completely random when it happens and not sure why it would do this. Any ideas?

This is what Intel website says:

I read the above and backed up my registry, made a restore point, and tried it. Works good.
I think for HP to get the latest and greatest setup to come from them they have to pay more and will not provide without having to to fix a problem.

Ok, you folks have me convinced. I just installed it. I am now getting 5 bars, but the actual speed seems to be the same. Maybe the update is just to give us more bars and make us feel good about our wireless reception?

That would be a big time waister for them for sure. No, but more than a more accurate signal strength are properties to tweak in the IntelProset if needed.

Three bars when right next to the router is BS.
