When I first got my laptop, I tried to use the campus LAN cable to hook it up with the internet. But no matter what I try, this computer can only access web content within the univeristy. Anything else outside is not accessible.
I tried the wireless connection, everything works just fine.
I noticed when the network cable is plugged, the green light on the NIC card doesn't blink as often as my other laptop that use the same cable and port.
Anybody has any suggestion. To be a backup, I'd really like the NIC working and afterall the cable delivers faster access. Is this some kind of hardware problem or software? What I did was only to install the security patch DVD after I received it.
Thanks for your time!

Nothing is probably wrong with it. At my college I can only get wireless coverage with the same computer. When I tried the wire connection it didn't work, I found out they have most of the wire ports closed, they perfer students to use wireless I geuss, and the wired stuff if for the school computers to run off of. Maybe its for security or something. Do you have broadband at home that is not working? or is all this only going on at your school?

No, all ports around my office and lab are active, and they work on my other computers. This is really annoying.

Its probably due to a problem in the DNS setup or your proxy setup, I'd talk to your campus help center.
