are there any real world performance differences between the i7s? I've been told that I can have a blank check to buy this thing but the economical part of me doesn't want to add components that won't matter.
already put 8gb of the 1600 ram in...go for broke?

Looks like the coupon just died. Anybody else having trouble using it?
EDIT: Nevermind, looks like it was rejecting it because I was logged in with the EPP discount. -

In the end, there is only 2 options - buy or not buy. This is everyone's personal decision. It just feels like some people would like to force through their point of view. -
I ended up clearing my cookies, making a brand new HP account, and re-configuring it from scratch, and it worked. -
Just wondering - seeing as I got that care pack with mine, would it be possible to use it if I just went accross the border and shipped it from one of those proxies?
I wonder if shiphappens.com allows you to ship from them - that would be great if so.. -
-
here's what I got:
Envy15, 1080p screen
i7 2860
8gb 1600 ram
all for 1360 (670 in savings) -
i noticed that too, just poor programming on HPs part -
I went with the 2760 because I will use the virtualization features. -
Could someone PM that 33% coupon code? I'll probably pull the trigger tonight if it still works on an envy 15! (I did search the thread but search tool doesn't seem to be working for me?)
-
you should search google for hp coupons rather than this forum.
the coupon is nbk3573.
others found here: HP® Coupon Code, HP® Coupons, HP® Promo Codes -
This laptop is getting very tempting but I am so used to matte screens, I am trying to figure out if I could ever go back to glossy. Anyway all is sounding good so far and thanks for all info.

Damn you. Now I'm starting to regret not having sold my Envy 14 (Radiance display, used) to my sis as I'm having new notebook fever!
ETA: About $1200'ish for an Envy 15 with the 1080p Radiance display and 3-year accidental protection is pretty good. Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems to me HP's begun upping the price of their machines slightly and raising the standard warranty to 2 years instead of 1. -
Yeah. It's a real pity they don't offer anti-reflective coating as they did with the older Envy 15. -
For those of you who haven't purchased yet but are contemplating, and who also happen to be a Discover card holder: don't forget there's also 5% off through Shopdiscover. Not trolling or anything, it's just that since we're throwing around coupons/savings and all, I figured it was appropriate (not to mention it was yet one more thing that pushed me over the edge to buy).

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I imagine you could even get in-home service if you spent a day or two over the border or left the laptop with a friend in the US.
Beware, though - if they don't offer your model in Canada (depends on the rep whether that means Envy 17, Envy 17 3D, or Envy 17 3D 3000CTO), they might hassle you about service in Canada. I personally found out the hard way that the international warranty for my Envy 14 only offers service in countries where the Envy 14 is available, so no service in China where I spend 10 1/2 months a year. -
Just to note to everyone. I ordered at 6:10AM on December 7. Applied NBK3573 Coupon Code to save $745.80. My total price After Tax came out to be $1631.54. I used HP Preferred Account for No Payments + Interest for 12 months, which I was instantly approved for. Used Fatwallet for another $60.18 Cash back, which they confirmed will be available in March.
Very interestingly got a call this morning from 866-528-3733 Number (which I usually never answer) but it was from HP Preferred to confirm that I put in that Order.
Here's my configuration and I plan on putting my 120GB Crucial SSD into it as primary drive.

5 yrs ago when I bought my dv9t I remember that they shipped it 1 - 2 weeks early.. but that might not be the case with Envy because of it's new release.
On a random note I've used my dv9t every single day for the past 5 years (Zalman Notebook Cooler highly recommended for longevity and reliability), SSD upgrade gave me such a speed upgrade to meet with my demands. I also remember using a 30% off code and getting the $2200 for about $1540 at the time after tax. I definitely got my money's worth.
Looking very forward to my HP Envy 17 3D!! So excited!
Anyone have experience with the Extended Warranty?
I usually find it a waste of money but I ordered this HP 3-year Care Pack House Call Service with Accidental Damage Protection for Select Pavilion or Envy Laptop for about $150 after discount. I have been proficient at fixing laptop problems in the past but getting the 1st generation dv9t left me with an awful hinge problem and overheating (before I got the Notebook Cooler) which turned into a fairly costly repair. I bought the 3 yr Accidental and figured I could always return that over next month if I decide to. I'm usually very careful with the laptop but I figure I will use this Envy 17 3D much more for mobility due to it's size and figure this would be worth the extra cost. Any thoughts? -
DOH!
Missed out! -
-
I've never really had to take in an HP for repair. Come to think about it, the only things I've ever had to take in for repair have been a Nintendo DS, A Toshiba L300 (4x), and my recent Malibal P151HM1 (On it's way back for refund).
I've owned two HPs, and nothing's ever gone really wrong with them. -
Me too. Could have saved even more money! -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
For US mail-in service, they will take one address at which they will ship you the shipping box and postage sticker (which will only be valid within the US, possibly within a certain part of the US), then they will return the laptop to that same address when it's fixed. If it's a freight forwarder, they might have to ship you the box, then you ship the box back to them and they ship it out to HP, then the computer goes back to them and they ship it back to you. Seems like a slow and expensive nightmare.
However, there's a decent chance that you'll be able to get international warranty support from HP Canada, in which case HP Canada would ship you the box, you'd ship the computer, and they'd ship it back to you (I assume, though maybe they have a storefront you could bring it into or something, no experience with HP Canada). That would be my first option unless you can do the in-home service over the border conveniently. -
lol, like anybody has a Discover card
-
I ordered envy 17 3d with 1x hard drive will be adding 120gb vertex III max iops, need to know if I need a hardrive caddy and cable and if so what's the part number thanks want to get it ordered so I have it to install when it arrives

Thanks for the coupon code! I'm gonna be taking some college classes soon. Didn't think lugging a Alienware M17XR3 to class would really be practical. So I been eyeing the new Envy 15 for a couple months. The 33% coupon and 5% cashback from discover helped me pull the trigger within 20 minutes of seeing this thread

Do either/both Envy's have SATA-III (6.0 Gbps)? I've been sporting my SATA-II 120GB G.Skill since my Envy 14 days, but I'm sort of in need of another SSD anyway soon. The SATA spec will determine whether I shell out extra for a Crucial M4 I've been eyeing for a while...
-
Call them on the phone with a question or problem and you'll find out real quick why they are rated #1 in customer service. Also unless you are packing an AMEX Black, there are really only a small number of lenders that can beat the Discover rewards package. Most will only meet it, plenty fall below. -
Anyone curious about getting this in canada, there is some good news.
The first two years of warranty can be used globally, any extra that you buy must be send in for repair from the US and received in the US - which is okay if you live by the border. -
@Rebenstein:
LOL...

Looks like you're famous, Rebenstein -
So the 1TB drive may actually be the fastest in many cases. Gets more complicated when it comes to seek times and other things, but higher density drives is also an increase in speed in certain areas. -
I should change my nick to TheCommenter ^^
btw, my nick is Rubensteinif you would translate "Reben-stein" from German to English it would mean "vine-stone"
"Rubenstein" on the other hand means - nothing I guess -
A new video from when the two were first announced.
Not sure if it's been posted yet, but here you go. I love the look of the ENVY 17, is the back of the lid also magnesium/aluminium? God I can't wait to get mine...
I'm assuming the past heating issues of the first gen ENVY's have been fixed? Is it safe to assume that? -
Hm... what about 17" what GPU does it have? Can someone ask question on that blog?
-
Strange how the code NBK3573 is still working on the Envy 15 but no longer working on the Folio :/ I guess I missed out...Now I'm contemplating on wether or not to get the Envy 15...I might wait for some reviews.
-
Do you have Any newer information about the display we were talking yesterday? The Swedish HP official site has the Envy 17 3000eo with "1600x900"? Is this possible? In USA site says only FullHD for the 17 and nowhere has the choice of lower pixels...(I mean for the non-3d model of course)
-
Well looks like the NBK3573 coupon is OFFLINE for the Hp envy 15, just when i was about to order
-
The one I'm eyeing, the 3010eo, costs 14999,- though I don't know if a full HD display and 2 gigs of extra ram is worth 3500,-
You can see all the models here: HP ENVY 17-3000 Notebook PC-serien under 'Välj en modell'.
Edit: Maybe I misread your post and thought you only found the one with the lower resolution (excluding 3D). Anyway... håll till godo! -
-
Tha serious problem is that in pdf at the same swe HP site, click where it says hela specifikationen datablad (pdf) :
http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/homelaptops/se/sv/product.php?id=A2Q37EA&experience=direct
and see that there is NO INFORMATION about display resolution!
http://www8.hp.com/se/sv/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5197231
This is the problem. The specs dont say anything but HP SWE wrote in the site 1600x900...
If you see the video of the redesigned envy they talk about full hd displays only... -
Usually on smaller markets like Sweden they bring one or a couple of preconfigured models what they think the customers want. It was the same with the original Envy, where the 15" only had the low resolution 1366x768 while in the states you could chose. I'm they got some massive critique for that and I personally waited for the second gen that finally had the Full HD displays. But in this case it's just strange, as you say, there is no lower resolution screens on the 17" even in the states. Then why even bring one model with it here?
But, I doubt it is wrong. If so the only thing that differs the 3000oe model from the 3010oe is 2 gigabytes of RAM. For 3500,-. Yeah right! -
Now I'm anxiously awaiting my new laptop (Envy 15). Thanks to all of those who posted the 33% coupon code!
I'm going to be coming from an HP Elitebook 8440p, so I'm looking forward to the vastly improved screen. If only HP could have put a decent screen in the 8440p...or even its successor, the 8460p.
I am going to miss one feature, though, and that is the true laptop docking station. I currently use one with the Elitebook and previously used one with a Dell Latitude D630, and both had the integrated monitor stand which transformed the laptops into true desktops when I wasn't mobile.
What is the best way to accomplish the same thing with the new Envy 15? I think the days of a simple connection of snapping the laptop into the docking station are over, since there are not any alternatives for the Envy. USB 2.0-based docks will negate the video card and sound, and USB 3.0-based docks don't seem to exist (yet).
Of course, instead of going from 1440x900 or 1600x900 on the older laptops to the desktop monitor of 1680x1050, I'll actually be going to a lower resolution from the Envy's 1920x1080. Maybe I can convince myself to buy a new monitor with the money I saved on the Envy
Apple's "Thunderbolt" interface paired with a capable monitor really seemed to be a perfect solution if I wanted a Mac.
Any suggestions on a good docking/desktop adaptation for the new Envy 15? -
Here is HP UK link for Envy 17-3002ea (I didn't see the link in the last several pages)
It has some official specs there at least.
HP Laptops - HP Envy 17-3002ea
It's sooo much cheaper in US... :/
No luck on Envy 15 for the moment.
What I wonder besides the usual discussion points is that how good is the heat dissipation on this machine? -
So it has 2GB more RAM and a second 750 GB HDD...but again it is strange the ~390 Euros difference... -
Ruben/Reuben is historically tied to ruby, as in the gemstone so that would make Rubenstein == ruby stone.
Either that or a corned beef, sauerkraut & swiss cheese on rye sandwich stone.
NOW AVAILABLE - Updated ENVY 15, ENVY 17 / ENVY 17 3D
