oh man if the 15's IPS is worse than my 14 then I'm going to postal
-
Does HP normally give a driver disc as well? I plan on doing a fresh OS install. Or will I have to download everything online?
-
-
I don't remember where and for some reason can't find it right now, but a little earlier in this thread someone posted a link to the Envy 15-3000 drivers page (or what will eventually become such a page). I used to regularly check the Envy 14-1xxx drivers page on notebookreview forums when I had my 14. -
AnandTech - Introducing AMD?s Radeon 7000M and NVIDIA?s GeForce 600M Mobile GPUs
The 7000 series looks like another "Rebadge" of the 6000 series.
The current generation Envy 17 has the 6850M. Even though clocked lower than the new chip, the 6850 has 800 Stream processors vs the 480 on the new series. 6850 has 40 texture units vs 24 in the new unit. Both have GDDR5 memory. There is no specs on the clock of the 7690, but I am guessing that it is a rebadged 6770M from the Pavillion series. They are about 15% slower than the 6850 with comparable screen resolutions. Perhaps they will clock them higher to make up the difference. All in all...the video subsystem of the 3rd Gen Envy is a wash in comparison to the 2nd Gen SB models, AT BEST! -
So I just ordered one of these a couple days ago. With a 33% off coupon its was around $1300. I'm going try it out for the 21 days and see what I think.
I have Envy 15-1100CTO so does anyone know how the Radeon 5830 compares to the GPU in the new Envys? -
I did order the $19 disc as well, but I am not sure if it's loaded with bloatware. I purchased it as more of a contingency plan if anything.
Also, different question, I ordered the 17 3D with 2x750GB HDD's. Will this be configured as a RAID 0? If not, will I be able to? I hope the motherboard offers this capability. -
I did get it with the discount. Here is the 15 spec:

The recovery discs will revert your system to EXACTLY how it was when you first opened/started your system the first time. -
it'd be sweet if HP offered System Update software like Lenovo does with Thinkpads. more manufacturers need to do this to make it more consumer friendly. it would perhaps resolve alot of issues and lessen the useless calls to customer service

Wasn't a quick ship. This is the message I got from them. Might just be a form message for 'we can't cancel your order, here is something to make you feel better'
This is the most recent update on your custom built PC order cancellation request. After reviewing your order, we have verified that your PC has already finished production and has shipped. You will receive a ship notification email from us with specific delivery tracking information and a tracking number. -
-
And here, I finally talked myself into comfortably believing I wouldn't even receive a "Shipped" notification until the 26th in spite of the "23rd" showing on my order status...
Anyway, Aquitaine, FWIW, when I almost returned my Envy 14 two weeks after receiving it, HP was willing to take it back, give me a full refund, and cover the shipping to get it back to them (no hassles, only a few necessary questions asked). You won't be credited any shipping charges you paid for at the time of purchase (i.e. $39 for 2-day), but I would be surprised if you had problems trying to return the 15. -
So these are shipping out slightly earlier than the quoted shipping dates? Colour me interested.
-
The shipping notice might be for your warranty. I don't like that HP sends the warranties out separately from the machines. Be prepared for a big $urprise to your wallet when they send you a box full of air and your warranty. I got zapped for $40 since I did my Envy as two-day and just got these stupid warranties in the mail. If you go back into your account you'll see what I see - "sent for production." I'm not expecting my actual Envy order until 12/26.
-
I didn't get the warranty or the 2-day, and I've had to return an Envy before and the whole process was very smooth. I think I only got the extended warranty on the Envy I have because the manufacturer's warranty was 1 year.
I'm not concerned about returning the 'extra' one but it is pretty funny that I called all of 10 minutes after I ordered it and they still built the thing! -
-
-
yeh mine is still listed as in production. the earliest i'd imagine it shipping is late next week.
-
Just my opinion -
Well, that's just it, I didn't ... I don't want the thing.
-
Interesting... when you look at HP Envy line, only 17" 3D has Full HD 1080p icon...
-
Looks like they're asking about a $120 premium - the $600 is for an Intel 320 series 300 GB, which is $529 at Amazon. But even if I did want to keep it, it's a business purchase, so I can't be tearing it open and doing my own modifications on it quite as readily.

-
So, who is going to be able to provide the FIRST 3rd Gen video Unboxing?? I can hardly wait to start seeing those....
-
-
Has anybody's order gone into production yet?
-
Mine is in production.

Order in production
(Estimated to ship on December 23, 2011) -
but I won't be here over Christmas, so I'll pick mine up at Jan 5th I guess. -
Well I ordered a non-3d Envy 17 on the 8th with $400 coupon code. After wondering why everybody on here was only getting the 17 3d version, I looked up that the 33% code worked only for the 3d 17 Envy. So I called and had them cancel the order, which is still going through but after some phone calls it's supposed to be cancelled here soon and they freed up credit on my Preferred card.
Not bad, I'm paying $20 bucks more for this 3d version with the 2.4ghz 2760qm processor, 1600mhz 8gb ram and 33% coupon, than I did with the non 3d and the 2.1 ghz 2670qm, 1333 mhz ram with $400 coupon.
They processed my order for a 3d Envy 17 today.

Now I'm just scared to death it's going to have a noticeable dead pixel or damage when it arrives. -
Mine is also in production. Ship date Dec 23.
Does it really take two weeks to build a laptop?
Hopefully it will ship sooner.
How many have ordered the standard display verses the 1920x1080? -
Mine was put to the factory yesterday, I ordered on the 8th, so hopefully mine will be in production soon, then shipped. -
-
Ordered a 17 3D on the 7th. Just tried to get the proc changed from 2670QM to 2760QM because I want VT-d. No go, because it's already "in production". Damn it. I'd just cancel and reorder, but I used the 33% coupon.
-
It's likely they are estimating ship dates of December 23 or later so that no one relies on receiving theirs before Christmas. If the machines are *actually* going to production now, it should arrive before the estimate.
-
It doesn't usually take them two weeks but it's quite possible that some of their supply won't be available for a week or so.
@Opeth, I wouldn't count too much on having your card credited - I cancelled one of my orders ten minutes after I made it and while they said they could almost certainly cancel it, it hasn't happened and I'll have to ship it back to them before I see a credit. Not a problem in my case since it's a business bill and won't be due until January (and I'll have it returned before then) but if it were a personal credit card I'd be a little miffed at having two laptops of HP charges on there.
Still, if that's the worst that happens, I'll be happy with it! -
My Lenovo T61 a few years ago was in the same boat--estimated shipping shortly after Christmas (I ordered first week of Dec), but ended up receiving a couple of days before Christmas.
My Envy 14 earlier this year was scheduled to ship ~3.5 weeks after ordering, but got to my door about 2 weeks after ordering instead.
I suspect manufacturers are much safer OVERestimating their shipping, and leading the customer to think, "Oh! It came early! That was 'fast'!"
FWIW, mine is also now "in production" (ordered on evening of 7th). Now I'm REALLY regretting not paying $39 for 2-day shipping. -
I'm sure I am in the minority but I hope it is pretty close to their estimated date. I will be out of the country for like 10 days and I am not sure what will happen if they ship it like the day I leave.
Does the Fedex 1-800 work in Costa Rica? Will it let me set it to be delivered to the local Kinko's online? So many questions, so few answers. -
OMG tried to order with 3 coupon codes..
NBK3573
NBH7589
NBS3697
None of them are working. Does anybody have the proper one? I am trying to get the 15inch Envy.
Please time is really valuable right now! Thanks! -
AutoEntropy
I think you are SOL on that one. Only the 17"3D still seems to work. -
When did you submit your order? I submitted mine today with the 33% coupon and they have not sent me any information yet. Should I be hopeful that it went through at that price? HP Sales rep said they would most likely cancel the order but I put it through under a different name and credit card.
EDIT:
Ok order went through but no confirmation email. I just wanted to know when people submitted their orders for them to receive an in production email?
I'm so nervous its ridiculous. -
I did it and it worked. I got the confirmation and it stated the price I was looking for..

I should be ok now right?! -
I heard only 15 inch will have ips. Need more info on that.
-
Somebody say something I am freaking out lol.
I just want to know that if the order went through on the site is it a definite sale and will it absolutely be coming though? -
EDIT: to clarify, all those statuses are on their website when you check the order status, as I said, you only get 2 emails.
I feel like yours should be fine, many of us abused the 33% off a LOT more and it went through. I got a $2500 laptop for $1600 and it is now in production. If they didn't cancel mine they shouldn't cancel yours.
NOW AVAILABLE - Updated ENVY 15, ENVY 17 / ENVY 17 3D
