So I can expect performance gains over my 5830. It's clock speeds are 500mhz. But the memory bandwidth seems to be a lot higher at 25.8 GB/s and 8.0 GPixel/s pixel fill rate. Also 800 pixel shaders which I'm pretty sure is more than the 7690m or the xt

I'd pay a lot more for the 17" Envy with no optical drive, fitted with a nice GPU, improved cooling, and bigger battery. If the system had to be thicker, so be it, as long as it has the same style/look. -
Check out Darren Gladstone's response to my comment on his blog:
HP Communities - AMD?s Radeon 7600M Graphics for New ENVY Laptops - HP Communities
Me:
Darren,
Tell the product manager for the HP Envy line everyone wants a Gaming Edition with a beefy GPU! I'd throw my wallet at HP.
Darren:
You got it...and AMEN! Just sent your comment along to the product manager. FWIW, I know that guy is a gamer, too!
EVERYONE COMMENT ON HIS BLOG TO LET HIM KNOW THERE'S INTEREST!!! -
If this link has been posted before, I apologize; have lost track over the last 140 pp.
HP Envy Home Notebook PCs - comparison results Home & Home Office - HP
This shows the 15 with a 7670M and the 17 with a 6850 M. Some sites say 7690M in the 17. I read that 7670M is 28nm. Who knows? Guess we'll see what's in them when they arrive! As someone said earlier, we ordered all this stuff and really have no idea what we're getting. Hope it isn't a pig-in-a-poke. Thankfully we got the 21-day return. -
-
The 5830m has more shaders, but the 7600m series are more efficient cards, so it is hard to say due to basic specs. -
Regarding an Envy "Gaming Edition", I'm 100% behind that move! I think HP would just swallow up the market if they were to ever produce one!!! -
I am a designer/web programmer/photography and an entertainment junkie, so the new balance the new Envy lineup has with the addition of a blu-ray drive are perfect for me. -
Is this very old news?

Well this is exciting. HP finally updated their support site to include the newest generation. Here is the Link for 17" 3D Envy.
After skimming through I verified it has Bluetooth 3.0 and it does support HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). Also it looks like we can order the official Recovery Discs if we need to later.
Brilliant! Check it out for most of the answers to your questions.
So to organize this, here are the Customer Care Websites:

Manual listed is same as 3D one.. just ignore the section on 3D.

Guys, is there still a 33% off coupon? Or is now replaced by the $250 instant rebate?

Envy 17 = $500 OFF $1399 (NBY3757) -
Can anyone verify the return policy on new hp laptops.
I recently ordered the dv6z, tried to cancel but it was to late.
Spoke to an agent and they said that there is 21-day return policy
with no restocking fees & will credit my account in 3-5 business days.
They said if I use the laptop, I could still return it.
The dv6z won't arrive till 12/21.
Now I'm going to order the Envy 17 with no payments + interest if paid in full
in 12-months, before the coupon code expires (12/18)
I just don't want to be stuck with 2 laptops.......LOL....they better honor their return policy! -

This post a bit later includes supposed specs for that panel, which say "60% CG". I assume this means 60% of the sRGB color space. That's somewhat disappointing, but not too important to me, since I personally prioritize viewing angle & image clarity over color reproduction, for my typical usage. -
If a color gamut width is quoted as a percentage without further qualification, I think it is usually understood to be a percentage of NTSC width. In particular a 60% color gamut is more like 83% of sRGB. This would tally with measurements from the Vaio SE. Note, however, that merely looking at the gamut width doesn't tell the whole story about color reproduction; if this panel is really the same as the Vaio SE's, then you might want to poke around in the SE owner's thread for more information.
-
If the same happens on with the HP Envy 15 Radiance display, I'll be disappointed. I recently purchased a Sony VAIO F-series laptop with their premium FHD OCB display which behaved that way (no color inversion, but still viewing angle variation in shade), and I returned it. The image stability simply did not meet my needs, it looked bad from vertical angles outside the sweet spot. -

Thanks for links to Envy 15 manual. I like much of what I am reading but do not like this particularly. Quoting form page 90 of Getting Started manual,
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to replace your computer battery, which is installed and sealed at the factory. A broken battery seal voids your warranty.
Would prefer a user replaceable battery.

Or just buy the dv6 and not worry about sleek looks?
Not sounding snarky on purpose. But PC companies typically are cautious about entering markets that haven't already been created. Look at ultrabooks and this Envy 15 as an example. It's true these same companies care about design. But designing a product like the ones you guys would like is wrought with risks, one of them being possible consumer confusion in an already crowded PC market.
And as I've earlier said: Mark my words. The ODD will disappear in a few year's time. All it'll take is one computer maker's willingness to create a market for thinner, lighter, ODDless notebooks. History has shown that with proper execution and timing, it's the market creators who come out on top. I've never been more sure of this than before. The ultrabooks and the Mac Air started the trend. Even though my Envy's about to hit the 1.5 year mark, I'm already looking at ultrabooks as a replacement in 2013. -
Apple has done a great job at turning the computer market into the automobile market - yearly releasing models that have little difference from the previous year - but I don't have to dig around forums and read articles to know which laptop is the best when I walk into an Apple store.
That said as an enthusiast I own an Envy 14 and I'm still making up my mind about the 2012 refresh. I also dislike Apple as a company based on their business practices. I'll wait for the reviews to come in first and maybe wait until the 28nm gpu's make it into the line. -

Should work as long as your logged in to your hp account first. -

Can you say how you were able to match that panel with the new 15 envy as only the pre-production were available?
As these new tibits come along it just is so interesting to me.
Now the manuals are online how soon for the parts manual?
Really itching to get our 15 with the i7,IPS screen and 160g SSD. -

Just got off a chat with an HP rep, she says NBH7589 isn't applicable to the 15", which is very weird.

E-Notebook Article -
PC makers, this includes HP, need to simplify their lineup, once they do this they will realize what market segments they are competitive in and where they can improve. I am not a fan of Apple, but it is very easy to understand their computer lineup and there is very little overlap, whereas PC makers have many computers that overlap each other and are confusing to figure it out (it is hard to find a fit with so much complexity and cluster). PC maker websites make it very difficult to figure out what computers do what and what can fit your needs.
Value Level ($250-$550, 11in - 15in)
Entertainment Level ($550-850, 13in -17in)
Performance Level (Currently Envy for HP) ($850-$1600, 13in - 17in)
Gamer Level ($900-up, 13in - 17in)
One of each size at each level. Make compelling features, fingerprint scanner, lights, imprints on the case are all nice but they are all gimmicks that won't really make a hugely compelling case vs any other laptop. PC makers need to push the envelope. Apple is not overly innovative, they are just better than everyone else (which means PC makers suck when it comes to innovating at the moment and that needs to change). If PC makers keep running it like a business and don't take risks, they will eventually run themselves into the ground. This is the problem when you have businessmen by themself run a company (they have a place in the company, but they shouldn't be making the decisions by themselves, it takes a balance of businessmen and designers/engineers to make a company really succeed), innovation goes out the door because controlling cost and playing it safe is more important; this is how you end up with a stagnant PC market.
For HP, make the naming scheme simple, pick a moniker, differentiate models easily and by name. There is no doubt that a Macbook Pro 13in is better than a Macbook 13, but how should your average Joe know the difference between a HP G6 and a HP dv6. Naming schemes of PCs overall suck at the moment and every one of them has a model number on top of that to add to greater confusion and complexity. Once they get these issues under control, release a strong compelling and complete lineup, with real innovation (gimmicks can be nice, but they don't sell laptops), and a new and real marketing campaign.
It really isn't that hard to figure out what all the PC makers are doing wrong and how it is hurting them, Apple doesn't have better computers, they just know how to make a painless process for the consumer in deciding which one to get. -
I put a base configuration, no upgrades 15" into my cart and tried to use NBH7589, it says coupon entered does not apply. Anyway, I'll call a live rep tomorrow morning and find out I guess!
