Hi guys, I ordered an Envy 15 back at the 7th and I just got a shipping notification email today.

 

shudnt ppl go for a usb 3.0 ? justsayin :/

 

Same here, but order mine on the 8th.

 

The order status for my 15 changed to shipped today too.

 

Was just an example you can dig a usb 3.0 one if you want, but the benefit is non existant for opticals / burners imo (while the extra unecessary cost is) :
blu ray x6 = 27mo/s
blu ray x12 = 54mo/s
USB 2.0 = 60 Mo/s (even tough its more like 30-40mo/s in reality, but the above for blu ray are also theorical values)
USB 3.0 = 600Mo/s

 

Well, I was going to point that out too. When he originally ran his tests, he didn't even know what GPU was in the Envy 17. Just that is was something even faster than a 7690M. To suddenly say that it was a 7690M XT, without providing any technical reasoning to explain such a huge difference in performance, is dubious at best. It certainly wouldn't be a matter of mere clock rates. You couldn't have 50% higher performance without nearly doubling the shader count, as a start.

I'm not convinced that this prototype 17 didn't hold a sample of something that's not available yet.

 

USB 3.0 sure can be nice but proven unnecessary. If you really want a great reliable solution that will add Blu-ray to any computer check out this Sony Slim Blu-Ray BURNER. That is even better than the Blu-ray reader on the Envy 17.

iirc he initially said the 15 contained the 7670m and the 17 had "something different" he couldn't talk about. The article was edited when the names were changed but before that the 15 wasn't referred to as 7690 in his article at least. Pretty sad when the only benchmarks come from a paid HP employee...

Unfortunately, I think I will have already departed for the holidays and won't be able to receive it until 12/26.

 

I don't think I've ever seen a line of laptops launch, go for sale, and begin giving out shipping dates before the customers even know 100% about what they've even purchased. It's definitely unprecedented.

Yippie kay-yay! Envy 15 shipped, arriving Dec. 22. Looks like that's the magic date for those of us who ordered on (or around?) Dec. 7. If anyone gets a ship date sooner than that please speak up and let us know the details when it arrives. Fingers crossed the remaining mysteries about this laptop turn out satisfactorily.

Given HP's fairly generous return policy, it's not like we're risking a whole lot - and if the battery life or performance turns out to be less than anticipated, I'm sure several of us will be taking advantage of it.

Looks like it's only for the 15". I ordered my 17" on the 8th and I got nothing.

I can only hope that I get it before Christmas. I did pay for 2 day shipping, but I don't know if that will make it get here any faster than if you didn't pay for it and if they both ship on the same day.

I got the email that mine is shipping out today with estimated arrival date of December 22nd. I'm here in the hospital (out of town) with my son who had some complications after a medical procedure. Hope to be home by the end of the week with him healthy and my Christmas gift to myself.

 

My 15's on the way. If it shipped with 2-day, then 12/22 is actually 3-day, right? I guess it's coming from somewhere in China, but my Apple 2-day shipment actually did get from China to me in 2-days.

The 15s just so I can do a few things from my living room. I want the 17-3d so I can dump this big box desktop, lose some furniture, and go sleeker in the office.

I ordered both on the same day (ordered the 17 about half-day earlier than the 15) so I guess the 17s are running a bit behind.

Going to be a nice Christmas.

I'll bet reviews go up today or tomorrow. At this point, units are probably in the reviewers hands and they just haven't had time to get them posted.

 

I have an Envy 14, removed the optical drive to put in an SSD and I use this exact external Blu-Ray. I use it once every few months - I really have no use for an optical drive these days.

 

Hope your son's issues work out well and fast. Gift to yourself though - why not just say it's for him and that you're going to pre-condition it until he's ready to take over.

can't please everyone... my 15 comes in on the 22nd, but i fly out of the US on the 21st. Shipping was suppose to be on the 27th + 5-7days shipping so it would have worked out.

They shipped mine today the 19th and it will be here on the 22nd. I actually did not get free 2 day shipping for some reason but they shipped it like that any way. Always had Apple and never ordered an HP they they are looking pretty good to me right now.

Ordered mine (Envy 15) in store on the 11th, it was just a stock model though, so I was hopeful when they told me it would come in roughly a week. Had all the important features I wanted (quad-core, 8GB Ram, 7200rpm HD, FHD screen) So I was quite satisfied even though I couldn't customised. Still not here though...
But I guess everyone in this thread kinda made me feel better, haven't seen any media on it yet. Hopefully it comes in the next few days =(

 

I got my Envy 17-3000eo (preconfigured) today. Here's some unpacking pics:

























I have imaged the harddrive and begun initial setup, after that i will burn the recovery dvd's.

Ah yes i must add that the bottomside of the envy is metal and not plastic.
