Hi All - I ordered my HP dv6700t with the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS card. Is anyone nervous about configuring a system to include any of the NVIDIA cards since they are having so many problems?

    What are your thoughts?

I am getting the laptop delivered today. Should I send it back and get the Integrated card?

If you are very worried and won't be gaming at all, go for the integrated.

I don't think you have to much to worry about though. Are the 8xxx series GPU's really causing people lots of problems?

Testing over a few days might not tell you much. It took just over a year for my 7xxx to fail.

though it's replacement failed in 1 week

Daily this problem is growing over more chip lines and laptop manufacturers. I wouldn't trust that anyone has a handle on what specific Nvidea chips aren't affected. The operative word would be not affected YET

    just a note...

even if the inquirer is correct...even though he seems pent on the destruction of nvidia...he proclaims that the g92/94 cores are defective...
the 9600m gt in the dv5t is a g96 card...it should be free of problems...except heat...but what else can you expect in a gaming laptop?

correct me if i'm wrong, but weren't the defects mostly heat-related?

they were only indirectly related to heat...
The problems are supposedly the defective material that wasn't able to cope with the stress of heat changes...ie getting hot and stretching and then cooling and shrinking...that is why there was a bad "batch"...the bad material couldn't handle it

So yes...it is due to heat...

Others say that the problem was due to bad engineering of the cards themselves...that the design of the cards itself caused the problems...however nvidia hasn't released anything of the sort and this problem is only finally being recognized...
The 9600m is a different core so if the design is the problem...it wouldn't suffer the same problems...
Nvidia said it was a bad batch on only affects few cards...the only people spreading info about defects is the sensationalist inquirer...but you never know...nonetheless...the dv5t is warm...but ok

Everything is speculation...people freak out...don't let them tell you your lappy is going to die...be responsible and it will be ok
