    12 FPS?

    Isn't that disappointing??

I hear about numbers in the 80's and above....

It is a cool game and in the config menue will run a test of your configuration.
It seemed to agree with 3DMark.

    I am rebooting that computer.

Only my 67th reboot for the day.

that's just it..you have to see the exact cards they are using. and i'll bet you 100 to 1, it isn't a 8600gs dedicated 512. most of them are 8600 gt cards or the 256mb version of the gs..apparently it has gddr memory. i didn't remember seeing that at the store, but i have been wrong before.

    I'm not over clocked.

Can't seem to get RivaTuner to work and the nTune doesn't do much.

I just found the Phoenix Bios Editor Pro to try the suggestion in the
    link you gave.

To use RivaTune I would need a reliable means of turning the Vista feature off that checks to see if a driver is signed. I tried a few methods found on the net but none of them worked.

    Hello!

I got the choice of getting a:

GeForce 8600M GS 256MB or 512MB dedicated laptop.

The specs of the processor/ram/HDD of the laptop with the 512MB is a lot higher.

    1) Should I go for the laptop with the 512MB GeForce 8600M GS?

I have read this thread, little confusing. From what I understand HP have implemented something in the BIOS to make the Graphics card not perform as well to save battery power?

This can be resolved with the 256MB 8600M GS but not the 512MB 8600M GS?

    Is this correct?

Surely HP should release an optional fix?

    Thanks =)

I currently have the HP DV9576EA with the 256MB GS graphics version.

Is this problem only specific to HP? I was going to get a Sont VAIO AR61ZU or possible another HP DV9790, both have 512MB GS versions.

    Thanks

well...for the dv9700 series...it would seem that the 256 is outperforming the 512 version and the sony...doesn't it have a 256 gt card?

Well, I will tell you one thing about Sony's 1920x1200 screen. It's bright, BUT colors are too much "colorful", so you can't really see the real colors of the picture. They look COOL in store. But after you take that "BABY" home - gets too much "colorful". And as I have tried many adjustments, I could not get the exact colors, I wanted. After my 8710w upgrade with 1920x1200 (LG-Philips), I found the most accurate colors.

    rotflmao!!

that's because after we see these high res screens, we get blindsided with colors and which ones are actually true color. lol i took my laptop to like 5 stores and set it next to them checking it out. even up against the dual lamps. and she was holding her own, but i was still impressed by the screen and they give up a gt card...wish hp would get on board with this!! high res screens and video cards.

Get 8710w laptop. Better, than 8600GT. And what's even better - you can upgrade the video card to upcoming FX3600 HI-END Graphics from NVidia in next couple months.

The only downside to DV9000 is not that sleek-designed, BUT more sturdier. And lack of webcam. The rest is superb to DV9000-series. Very quiet machine.

By the way, is your DV9740US coming with built-in TV-Tuner, or it's an express card-tuner? I have got one of DV9740US's here and it does not seem to have that option, and the supplier told me that it is TV-Tunered.
