They do say on the website that if your affected model is not on the list to contact the attorney.

You do have the option of taking HP to small claims court, if your model isn't listed this has been a good option for people with a suffering system.

I double checked your product registration number and it does not appear under any platform.
Regrettably not every computer with the Nvidia component is covered by this settlement. In litigation there is always a risk. It was unclear, in this case, whether the Court was going to certify this class at all. Though the Court did certify the class, there were many issues as to whether Plaintiffs would get a recovery. You will win if you take them to small claims court. Many people have and they will settle with you before it goes before the court. There is a website called hplies.com and they have tutorials from people who have won their cases. Usually they will call you to make you an offer as soon as they get the papers.

Did anyone actually receive notice from the settlement folks about filing a claim? I have two separate email addresses registered to be notified when the claims process begins. Haven't heard a word from them, and now the system seems hopelessly congested.

You can also bet that there will be a massive swarm of people filing, so I am expecting the web site to be inundated and the entire claim process will most likely be slow-going. I am expecting a waiting game at every turn. I think I read something like 6 to 8 weeks to receive a new laptop once the defective unit is received. So, buckled up and get ready for a ride. -
anyone has an idea about filing returning the laptop with how it is going to be processed? Like would the tx1000 need to be complete with the original hd, cdrom, ram in it? My tx1000 is currently in pieces, and some of the components such as the ram are being used in other systems right now.

The second version of the sample claim form clearly stated that the HDD could be removed. Other than that, it said that the computer must be intact. I've removed the HDD and upgraded memory I added. Reading the current sample claim form, I'd not suggest trying to return a computer that was "in pieces."
Current sample claim form has also lost the wording regarding the HDD removal, so I guess we'll have to wait to see what the actual form says, or what is received with the return packaging and instructions. -

Just to be safe, I plan to call again to verify this if the shipping material or other information I receive prior to sending the laptop away does not mention it. -

and about the proof of purchase, I only have a credit card statement, am I going to be screwed? I dont have the receipt from office depot, just the statement.

I have an HP computer that seems to be having all the same problems as those described in this lawsuit, but my computer wasn't on the list.. I can't even turn mine on to find out if I have the specific NVIDIA chip, but I'm pretty sure I do? I have an HP Pavilion DV9500 that I bought in September of '07.. my screen completely stopped working only a couple months ago, but I had an overheating problem with it since I got it.. I did manage to turn it on last month, had it working for a day, and then when I went to turn it back on the next day, the screen would not boot..
So, is the the NVIDIA card? I'm so confused..
Oh, and I sent it to my father's friend who owns a computer store to see if they could fix it, and they said something about things being fried on the inside and wanting over $700 to fix it. -

As sad as it may sound, being technically savvy really won't help you in this case. It's time to buy another laptop. The cost to fix yours is more than it is worth and you can buy something better for the same $700 today. Please don't buy another hp. Go with a $700 (or cheaper) Dell or Acer instead.
You can probably get $30 or $40 for your dead DV9500 on eBay from someone looking for spare parts. -
I actually fell out of warranty a week after and my dc jack became lose. They gave me a 1 time replacement and I don't see my number on there. Do you think the switched out the bad one to prevent this future switch? My DV6500T is still loud as hell and I just want it to stop heating up so damn much.

It's nice they made an exception on your DC jack a week out of warranty. I do not really understand your question, or how that is related to the NVIDIA Class Action settlement. Can you clarify what you are asking? -
What would you guys suggest if I have no proof of purchase? I never kept any receipts, all I have is Proof of Registration via HP's website.
Another problem I'm anticipating is that my TX1000 has a broken LCD, I've been using an external monitor for it up until it completely died. Would they deny my computer for that?
Any help or thoughts on this would be very much appreciated! -
As much as all of us would like to help, any advice we would give you on this forum would be anecdotal or conjecture concerning the specifics of your situation with the broken LCD, and how they would treat that. -
Either way, a new motherboard is $150 max and WILL run for a good few years if you replace the stupid thermal pads with aluminum or copper shims. For $700 you can buy a new laptop. -
Anybody know anything about how the hundreds of customers outside the USA will get anything in exchange? I mean this is only for the States, right? Do we have to sue them separately???

Completely ridiculous that the line of chips that brought this issue to light (the 8000M-line) is left out in the dust.

This is just one of the many articles that have detailed the vast failure of the 8000-line of chips, and it's been widely publicized all over the Internet. It's crazy that computers with those chips aren't being replaced. Mine crapped out after just over a year (read: out of warranty) after I had replaced and Alienware with a 7600 that crapped out after just over a year.
I'm really hesitant to ever buy a laptop with an Nvidia GPU again if they're really not going to replace or reimburse these. It just doubles my anger that the lawyers who are supposed to be representing us ed out in order to get their massive paycheck from Nvidia. -

Every HP tx1320 tablet owner needs to appeal the approved replacement because it is not comparable according the the lawsuit guidelines. Compared to the HP tx1320 the ASUS Eee PC T101MT-EU17-BK does not have an optical drive, HPtx11320 2GB processor vs ASUS 1GB, HPtx1320 224GB Hard Drive vs ASUS 160GB Hard Drive. Below is the link to the Plaintiff's Law Firm to complain about the inadequate replacement. Hopefully all of us who paid $900 for our more powerful tx1320 can get a more acceptable compensation.

We're OK as long as my wife leaves her hp dv6449us laptop turned on 24/7. When we turn it off we have a dickens of a time getting any video output back on the screen again. It's going be interesting to see how long they make us wait after the old machine is sent off to them. It will not be surprising if it takes 2 or 3 months of no computer and no word on status, and no way of finding out anything. Just wait, wait, and wait some more.
You're lucky that you invested in the XPS. No system downgrades necessary, since they're actually repairable with a removable video module. All of the hp garbage is simply throw-away hardware. -
Hey NVIDIA, I'd gladly settle for this, or even this as a replacement for my wife's defective hp dv6449us! You get off the hook way cheap, (about half the cost,) and make a happy customer by providing a superior quality product as an exchange. Sounds like a win-win situation to me! Let me know. I'll be here, just waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

I have the HP Pavilion dv9205 which was involved in the lawsuit. I filed a replacement claim on January 11, 2011 but have not heard a word from anyone as of today.
I have several questions if anyone cares to reply.
1) My laptop had mega problems starting with no wireless, then the video would go in and out, then it was running super hot causing one of the hinges to melt and break. THEN to top it all off the heat cause it to shut down and will not power back up (the light flickers and goes out).
2) They will be getting one sick laptop. My question is this..... can I remove the hard drive and return the computer with no hard drive? Are they going to have a problem with me returning their crap of a machine which is together but has a broken hinge?
3) are they replacing like models? I paid $1200.00 on sale for mine. I noticed they have different models with the Compaq Presario CQ50 (110, 115, 210 etc) ?
4) Anyone know how I can remove the date from the old hard drive once I remove it? -
Then you can copy what files you need over.
If you want to erase, KillDisk works great since it'll actually write over your data.

What about the Asus s96s or the z96s with the 8600m series? Can they file some type of claim? My s96s died within within 2.5 years. Is there anything that can be done??

Yes, I received my letter yesterday and shipped the laptop back to them today. My claim was successfully filed online on January 11.
