Has anyone with a Compaq/HP notebook containing this video card tried playing 3D games with it? If so what has been your opinion of it. What can it run?

I have heard it is not that great for gaming. Its ok for some minor but not for the average gamer. You want an ATI radeon 9600 or 9700.

I mean this on both. If you are an average gamer i would get out of HP and look for maybe an emachine, dell,or acer.

PS: those graphics cards can probably run Halo on lowest settings SEMI moderate its still going to lag a little probably

    hope i helped, Matt

The card is OK for gaming, but if you are a big fan of FPS games, then a better video card would be the ideal choice (better frame rates). My brother played Doom 3 with his old NVidia GeForce 3 card and it played OK, just had to drop the graphics settings to low. There was some screen lag in the heavy action scenes, but generally performed OK.

    Me? ZV5340US with MX440 at 64megs.

I've used mine for some light duty gaming as a loaner at a couple of LAN's and honestly, it's surpassed my expectations. It scored 8200 3DMarks in '01. It runs Call of Duty at 1024x768, low settings, at 55 fps +/- 10 fps.

My main game box is a FX53, 6800Ultra, 1gig of Corsair RAM, SATA, scoring 25k 3DMarks, etc. So I had little hope for this notebook. And certainly, the people borrowing it don't even notice the "low" settings.

While I've only played Enemy Territory, CoD, and Painkiller, I am certain games like Far Cry, Doom3, and HL2 would give it some issues.

    Enjoy

I had the 440 go and it sucks for gaming it wouldn't even play Prince of Persia Sands of time let alone Doom3 or HL2
get at least a ATI 9600 or Navida equivilant

Actually the Geforce 440 and 420 are only Dx7 hardwere capable, they do not possess DX8 pixel shaders.
