I'm having LCD issues with my NW9440 Laptop (W/ XP Pro operating system). I'm getting vertical banding that seems to flicker/shimmer. It doesn't happen all the time; only intermitantly but for long stretches of time once it starts. I've upgraded the video driver and the Bios to the most recent HP ones but that hasn't helped. Not sure what triggers the problem but it seems to come and go randomly. The banding is never present during the first stage of start up (Bios?). It is first noticable when the Windows logo appears. I assume it is a driver and/or bios issue but not sure. When the banding is present, restarting my computer doesn't seem to help. The banding is always there when I restart if it was present before the restart. I tried the HP Instant Supprt and the monitor test looked fine but the banding was present during the video adapter test although the test said everything was working fine. HP Supprt said to re-install video driver again which I have done to no avail. Hope someone has a solution to this. Thank You....

I have a picture of my LCD on this thread:

I have some new info to add. If I push down on the case to the left of the touch pad below the keyboard it seems to correct the problem temporarily. It must be a hardware issue, right? Maybe a loose cable connection? I did the online instant messager tech support with HP and they say I need to take the entire laptop apart to reseat all the cables. Any thoughts? This sounds like it could be pretty time consuming; I looked at the manual and there are a lot of steps. Has anyone else had to do this with the NW9440 recently? I must say I'm a little disappointed in the build quality; I was hoping this laptop would be trouble free for at least a year or 2.

HP told you to take apart the laptop? They generally won't advise any customers to do that and will just send out a tech to fix it. I think it's time to give them a call. They should be able to fix it.
