    Hi,

My 2+ years old nx8220 (2.0 GHz, 1Gb, ATI X600) has started to act very strangely. Occationally Windows boots, but most of the times on power-up the screen stays black, HD spins for a while and then stops. Sometimes, instead, the fan goes on full power after a while, indicating, I suppose, that the cpu is in use.

I removed the battery and it booted once, but now it's again doing what I described above. However, when Windows started I got quite a few "New hardware found" dialogues referring to system stuff like buses etc.

A week or so before it got this bad I started having trouble with the WLAN, and general instability in Windows.

I bet it's somehow hardware related. Could it be the BIOS battery (better than the motherboard...)?

I'd be extremely happy if someone could give me some input and advice. I'm just about to finish my thesis project, so this was a pretty bad christmas present...

    Cheers, Fredrik

    Thanks,

I do that regularly, at least twice a year.

And since the problems start way before the OS is involved (screen is black from start, I don't even get the option to enter BIOS setup) I don't think it is a Windows issue.

I manage to boot Windows perhaps once out of ten times I try. A new weird symptom: when I tried to flash my BIOS (in Windows) the program asked me for a password. I've done it before and never been asked for a password. Never chose one in setup either.

    Best, Fredrik

    Hi again,

I have a new clue: it seems to be booting more often if I bend the chassis slightly by lifting the right front corner of the computer.

Could this indicate some bad connection? Perhaps just a loose soldering? If anyone has similar experiences I'm thankful for your input.

    Best regards, Fredrik
