Does anyone know if I can get the port and plug from a NX8230 and fit it to my NX8220?

In device manager it says there is a com1 port.. so I'm assuming that I can.

I need a serial port so I can work with cisco switches and I don't want to get a usb-serial converter if I don't have to...

Any help would be much appreciated or a part #.

    Cheers

Even if you succeed in removing the serial port from the NX8230 intact, there is no guarantee that you will find a suitable place for it in NX8220 (let alone power supply).
In any case, you will have to cut a whole in your computer and void your warranty.

THe 8220 just has a blanking plate where the serial should be. I'm assuming the 8220 and 8230 has the same motherboard.

On another note, I've had a look in my bios and it says it is a nx8230.....

In this case, it seems very possible. Yet, be ready to solder the serial port to the MB and to void your warranty. Run CPUz to see if the MB is really the same.
Hp explicitly state that the serial port is only for NC8230 so they should have something in mind. If it is just product feature, then you should be able to insert a serial port in NC8220.
Yet, I don't think you can find such a part from HP. Maybe you should look at some computer hardware specialized stores because the serial port seems to be standard. An alternative would be to buy a docking station, which has a serial port on it.

Hm, I just found an interesting wireless solution: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833131006. I've never seen such a bluetooth adapter but it should work.

    Hello MY92!

Have you solved the problem to fit a serial port to the nx8220?

I have also a nx8220 and I would like to do the same.

Can you tell me how to get it work, if it works.

    Thanx a lot :) .

    Hi.

In the end I gave up because the port was something like $120US. So in the end I just use a usb-serial adapter.
