    Hi guys,

I need a recommendation for a USB external DVD burner known to be compatible with Pavillion ZT1180.

Having trouble with external USB SONY DVD burner model DRX820U. Getting nothing but coasters... Is there an imcompatibility issue with using a high speed UBD burner with the ZT1180 that does not have a high speed USB?

Thanks in advance for your advice. :)

All USB DVD burners should be comparable in quality, aside from the speed ratings and built in buffers. They will all, in any case, work with your notebook, assuming the applicable drivers are given on CD or are Windows native.

Next, for the trouble you are having with the Sony. Make sure that you have buffer under-run protection ENABLED. Then select a write speed two notches or so under the max. This should prevent coaster production (hopefully you like coffee....)

You might also want to remove unneeded processes, applications, and TSR programs that are running while your burn a disc. Hope that helps.
