I'm going to be getting a HP Pavilion dv9700t notebook within the next few days. I am not a gamer, and the most graphically advanced games I would be playing are Sim City 4 and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I am an avid Blu-Ray watcher. I have plenty of movies already, and I want an BD-ROM on this notebook. What would your recommendations be for this?

Do I need to get a 512 MB dedicated video card (512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS), or would the jump from a 256 MB card be unnecessary?

    Do I need a processor over 2.1GHz (Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T8100)?

Do I need any more than 3 GB of RAM?

Do I need a 64-bit Vista Home Premium OS?

For the record, it will be running on a 1680x1050 resolution screen.

Your help would be great! Thanks in advance!

You don't need any hardware upgrades that are available from HP. However, for true 1080p, you may want to replace the monitor with a WUXGA (1920x1200) screen, which you'd have to install yourself. In that case, get the 1440x900 monitor with the laptop to save yourself some money. Check out http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=221429 for info on how to upgrade.

If my HD DVD-equipped dv9K is any indication, 32-bit Windows, 2 gigabytes of RAM, 1.5 ghz C2D processor and HDMI-compliant video card with HDMI work just fine for watching 1080p video on either the built-in screen or on a TV.
