    Hi guys,

Ok so here is the deal, one of my friends from Canada got a DV5000t about a year and half ago... brand new from US...

Couple days ago he did a factory defaults system restore on it... using the CD that were provided with the laptop... now the computer does not start... I have the laptop right now and am trying to fix it.. but all I get is a black screen...

    These is what exactly happens,

I start the computer... the screen flashes... shows me the initial HP sign and the BIOS menu at the bottom left and the processor type and all that... so just the initial startup but right before it is suppose to boot in XP the screen goes blank...

Now I highly doubt that the screen is dead because I can see the HP sign and that stuff on turning it on...

Performed a hard drive test from BIOS... and turns out fine...

and when trying to boot from a cd/dvd nothing comes up on the screen...

What do you guys think might be the issue??? :(

I would really like to help him out... but dont no what to look for anymore... I am out of all the tools in my cabinet... please help me out here...

    Thnx

Make sure the cd drive is enabled as the first booting priority or else it will try boot from the HD. Check the BIOS for this

Is the drive trying to read the cd at all? .. It should say "Press any key to boot from CD....."

When he did the factory restore did he make sure aned remove all added devices internal and external, and disconnect the internet cable if it was connected.

If he presses F11 can he access the recovery manager?
