to buy the laptop and get it.I need this laptop as im coming to united
states for doing my M.S(mostly in last week of august) . so i will be needing this mostly for my study
    purpose, watching movies , listening songs,games etc. . . .

    My Configuration will be

I need some one to answer my following question

    1) what voltage do they follow in United states .I have heard that it
is 110V. In India we follow 220V.If this is the case then Can a laptop
brought from US work in India?

    2)The graphic card provided by hp is only " 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R)
    Go 7400 " .can i upgraged it to " 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 "
    after buying the laptop.

    Namaste :D

Anyways. GPUs of laptops are not upgradeable(sad,I know). What games do you plan to play? If you are looking for really demanding games (which you may,in teh future, you can get Asus S96J or teh Z96J.The Compal EL80 is also very good. There's also a Dell with the 7900GS but it's build quality is not as high as HP or Asus)

In U.S.A we have 110V. You can get a stepdown transformer/adapter from pretty much any electronic store (in the U.S defenitely,I am not so sure of India. Mumbai,Delhi,Bangalore,Chennai - all major cities should defenitely have them. But I suggest you ask your cousin to bring the adapter/transformer when he comes - something like this). Heck,my cousin is sending an HP dv5000t to Chennai (for his mom) :p

If there is a budget and requirement criteria,I recommend you post in teh "What Notebook Should I buy" section, where you will be open to more options.

    Hope that helped =)

Thanxs .zoXan. for the reply. Its really sad to know that we cant upgrade the GPU. Any way im not much in the gaming, very rearly i play games , so i think " 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400 " will be enough.

Thanxs for letting me know that there is something like stepdown transformer, i never know there is something like that. I will definately tell my cousin to bring one which changes 110v to 220v.

Budget is no prob for me , i really like hp dv5000t . it has all i need in laptop.

I dont think a converter is needed as the ac adapter can handle the power consumption. I think the only thing needed is a plug adapter ( easily gotten either in airport or local indian store). Many of the converters that come with electronics(example; my old digital camera's charger is able to handle 100V-240V and is capable of handling the power.) are able to handle the voltage.

If you want to save some cash, you can drop the processor to 1.83 from 2.0 as there isnt a big difference. Also I think it would be cheaper to go one stick of 512 and then buy online or in India a 1GB stick of memory.

Although others already gave you an answer, i just wanted to cofirm you that it will work with no problems at all. That's my case, since i bought my Compaq in the States and it has already been working in Spain and French Polynesia, where voltage is 220.

There's no need to buy any transformer, just a plug adapter. You can ask your brother to get one at Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, RadioShack... I bought mine at Walmart and it works wonders. It simply adapts any plug into any other type for less than ten bucks. I strongly recommend you to buy the adapter in the States, since the Hp plug will probably have three pins, and adapters found in Europe are usually designed for the two-pin version. Finding the correct one will be easier in the States. I don't know if you'll have to face the same problem in India but, hey, you'd better play safe.

As others said, no. I got nothing more to add.

    Cheers, mate.
