so the AMD thing isnt going to be a problem?
thats basically the only thing besides holding out for a better price that has kept the person Im researching for from buying it.

Looks like a good set-up for the price, I almost bought that one a couple of months ago, and the price on those had gone down slightly.

No AMD is not the problem.. its the integrated 7150M GPU. This one is probably similar to Intels x3100 integrated. Neither the 7150M or intel x3100 are very good for gaming. If your friend is into gaming you should look into dedicated cards. For causual gaming the 7150 might be ok but don't expect to play newer games at high Frame rates with this. Probably the best GPU would be a dv9500t system with the 8600GS GPU. Dell has even faster card options with the 8600GT card.. these are nvdia cards.

Why would it be? The speed comparisions are all relative. The AMD's are slower clock for clock to comparable C2D's but that doesnt make them unusable. They are perfectly fine for home/office use. Ofcourse if you can find a similar C2D at that price then go for that over the AMD based solution.

BTW If you do end up buying the laptop(or any laptop from any OEM) make sure to remove the crap that HP installs before using it otherwise your initial experience will be slow.

So, if in fact there will be nothing beyond perhaps solitare and ms hearts and maybe some online game(miniclip.com), then with this AMD setup The person who is buying this laptop should be ok?
If he uses the coupon, when do you enter/apply it, I couldn't get to use it since it require me to enter mailing address and other important info and create an account.

Go to HP's website and configure a 9500z yourself. There is a 30% coupon going on right now. It would come out to about the same price but you would be able to upgrade a few things...i.e. graphics card. Though for optimal savings it might be better to buy the other gig of memory somewhere else.

That config for the price isn't a bad deal at all, even has decent resolution for the price, video is weak but what the hell would one expect for that price right? :)

As for it being AMD the Turion isn't bad at all, looks like a nice deal, good luck!
