Guys i need help - i cant figure out what lappy to get. I have right now a Pen M v4000t.... but its too heavy/big.. so i was going to return it and get a V2000 but i just read that even thos in pen m's get just as hot. So am i better off keeping the V4000t? - afterall theres barely any heat given off by it - and its pen m... w/x600 (however i dont game!) The only problem is that its too heavy for me (laptop + books + purse and traveling everyday with it)

So i was going to get either the pen m or the sempron v2000. But those give off heat too and i am assuming that heat is a bad thing in a laptop right?

So fedex is coming in the next two hours to pick up this v4000 and i was going to get either: Which one would be better or am i better off keeping this heavy one?

    V2000z:
    Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    – AMD Sempron(TM) 3000+ (1.8GHz/128KB L2 Cache)
    – 14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
    – ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/productivity ports
    – 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)
    – 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    – DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    – FREE Upgrade to 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/125HSM!!
    – 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    comes to $900

    OR

V2000 - has a worse GPU but has Pen M
    Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    – Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 725A (1.6 GHz)
    – 14.0" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
    – Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 900 - Pentium
    – 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)
    – 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    – DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG WLAN
    – 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
comes to 950 - price doesnt matter, but no more than 1100.

Which one is better (less heat, better processor) or is almost as good as the v4000t?

thanks guys i need to make a decision in an hour cuz fed ex is coming to get this v4000 in an hour!

Well, which one would fit your needs? It looks like a V2000/Z would be the best option as you're griping over your V4000t because its too big. Be aware in the loss of a GPU, however.

ok its decided - im giving back the v4000t - this babys just too big for me- guess i'll have to lose the x600/pen m/free printer for something small and compact - i'll just get a 3 yr warrenty cuz im afraid of the turions heat issues... tell me guys if this is a good move... thanksss

You said V4000t is big, but then why you are opting for 12-cell in V2000 series, it addes 0.7 pound which makes it 6.1 pound laptop. Whole point of buying a 14" is keeping the weight down I guess.

Remember, even 0.5 pound feels heavy in a laptop.

sorry Radha but this is getting rediculous! Get v2000 with Pen M and 6 cell battery; if I remember correctly a month or two ago you asked about battery life, well P-m will give better battery life. You don't need the x200 GPU as far as I get it and the intel one is not so bad, you can still play SIMS 2 for example

Since you don't game, I don't think the GPU should be your concern at all. (I'm sorry, I've forgotten what uses you are going to be putting this to, but mostly anything else will be fine on integrated.)

I agree with Chinna - I think the 12-cell battery is silly. Get two 6-cells so you can only carry the extra weight when you need to be on battery for a long time. Also, the 12-cell sticks out of the computer funny and gets in the way.

Radha, I fully sympathize with you in your difficulties in picking a notebook. I was notebook searching for months for college and two days into the beginning of classes, I still didn't have one, so my dad got fed up and bought me a DV4000 from Costco. I always wanted a notebook with a 14.1" or smaller and am now trying to get rid of the DV4000 but I'll probably be stuck with it.
Good luck on picking a permanent notebook soon!

Why not get a Turion with your budget? My Turion was $850.

I think he wants something without a lot of heat (not saying the Turion is really hot or anything). The P-M is cooler than the Turion, but not by much.

Well then, why not a better Sempron with the enlarged cache? edit: I thought they had Semprons with 256 MB L2 Cache.
