    I'm looking at the following: dv6000, dv5000, dv2000, dv1000t.

I need a notebook that I can take to class and take notes in class with, and the dv8000t I have is way too loud and big for that purpose, although I may have to tough it out for now.

Are any of the above loud? Loud only with the Nvidia option? I'd love to hear your experiences with them especially as it relates to classrooms. Thanks.

My v3000t is pretty quiet though the keyboard can be a bit noisy.

I think macs are quieter because they rely more on passive cooling... Get a smaller laptop as they have smaller fans and less parts to make noise. Make sure you get a good dvd-rom/cd-rom drive, brand matters and this can be a very noisy part. So... ultimately i would recommend the dv2000.

The keyboard is probably the most important noise source during note taking, so you should pay most attention to the keyboard noise.

I have a dv1000 that is ultra quiet all the time. I never hear fan noise and the keyboard is very quiet too.

I had a dv2000t w/ the nvidia option (returned because of touchpad problems). The fan came on often but it wasn't too bad... the keyboard was definitley louder (more clicky sounding) than my dv1000.

For those with dv2000, is the fan much quieter with the Intel Graphics Accelator option as opposed to the Nvidia option?

I doubt many people have tried both so it's a hard question. Yet, I can assure you that the integrated Nvidia chip does not generate heat that could be a problem and make the fan start.
The heat generator in those thin laptops is the HDD. I hear Fujitsu are the coolest hard drives that HP supplies.
