Hello.
I have an hp tx1000 laptop which has been giving me problems.
It has been in for repair 3 or 4 times already, for following:
1. The computer completely died
2. The computer overheated
3. The computer overheated
4. The computers wifi card died.
The last two have been in the previous 2 months or so. Now yesterday the wifi card died again. Last time when I spoke to the hp service they told me that it needs to break with the same problem three times.
I know for a fact that this computer has a faulty design, and if I send it in for repair again it will fail again. I'm tired of this laptop. I use it for work but I find it being off on repair more often than it's working.
Instead of sending it in for a fifth time, I want a replacement laptop worth the same as this laptop (about $2000) of my chosing. In my country the law states that I have the right to a full refund or a new product within three years of the purchase if the product is faulty. It is within three years and I still have warranty.
I have three repair receipts which all state a replacement of motherboard. Does this count as three strikes? Since everything is onboard, all problems lead to a motherboard replacement.
With all of this knowledge, I would like advice on arguments to say and things to do before contacting for a refund. Things I need to do, or any general experience with HP and this sort of thing.
Thank you

since your country laws are what you are going to depend on, your best advice is to contact a consumer organization in YOUR country.
It is unlikely that anyone here will be able to offer you better assistance. -
That is true. However any general tips on dealing with hp support is also appriciated.
Also, does having the motherboard changed three times count as 3 strikes? -
Get ahold of a manager @ HP Support. Have your case escalated. No Post/No WiFi are all failure points of the nVidia MCP67 Chipset's Northbridge BGA. They know all about this, and are trying to string you along.

Alright I spoke to HP support. I didn't speak to a manager but the guy said it would be picked up and most likley be replaced. He said the situation would probably be that I would be offered a laptop or a choice of two with similar specs.
So similar specs means whatever laptop they offer me needs to be a tablet, which leads me to believe they will offer me a tx2 or maybe a tm2. Do you guys think I could ask for another laptop (in same or lower price range) when the time comes?`
I'm really hoping not to get another turd, from reviews the tx2 is really loud and hot running which is not at all good for work since I need a quiet laptop... -
In that case try to get the tm2 ?
So far it looks quite nice and it doesn't have hot running AMD in it either.
-
Yeah, the tm2 looks nicer in every aspect except the processor. 1.3 is really bad, I wouldn't really wanna go below 2 Ghz...
I guess time will tell. I would go with the tm2 over the tx2 though
I have my eyes on another model laptop though. The probook 5310m would be perfect and it's in the same price range so I hope they could give me that one... -

Compare benchmark results for it.
BTW, I have the TX2500 tablet. I hated it when I first got it because it ran hot and the fans ran on med to high often. But then I undervolted it and it's been my best friend. Runs cool and quiet. Not a hint of trouble. Plus i get about 4 1/2 hours battery life with the extended battery. -
Yeah, my tx1000 is fine during the brief 3 weeks it can go without failing. I got about 2hours or less with the 6 cell battery.
If the 1.3 Intel core 2 duo is like a 2ghz amd then it would probably work. However the probook has a 2.26ghz Intel core 2 duo... -
Alright, for some reason instead of getting it refunded they just reparied it again...
What am I supposed to do now? I wanted it refunded but it got repaired instead. Am I just supposed to wait until it fails again?
Need advice on getting laptop refunded
