    Hello all,

Someone asked me for advice about which laptop to get, as his current one is several years old and in dire need of replacement. He wants to use it for sound recording, for which he currently uses a program called Sonar. He doesn't want a refurbished computer, and he would like a 17.3" screen; beyond that, he doesn't really have any criteria. I said I would probably recommend for him to get an Intel i5 CPU or better, and 8GB of RAM, because I don't want him to be underpowered for his sound recording projects.

I did some looking, and found this one on the Staples website, on sale for about $900.

Here's the product specifications from the Staples website:

    2.4GHz Intel Core i7-4700MQ
    8GB system memory
    1TB hard drive
    17.3" HD LED display
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M
    Windows 8
    HD web camera
    Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 1 USB Supporting Boost, 1x Headphone, 1x Mic-in jack, 1x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert, 1x HDMI
Connectivity options include 802.11b/g/n and LAN 10/100/1000 Mbps
    Dimensions: 1.05" (H) x 16.38"(W) x 10.8"(D)
    Weight: 6.28 lb.
    Bilingual Keyboard
    1-year limited warranty

It also comes with Beats Audio.

So, what are your thoughts? Will this serve him well, or should I look elsewhere? I was unable to find any reviews on this specific model.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Davis

Maybe buy a Lenovo Y410p or Y510p instead very affordable. And you can get better specs, even with GT 755M. Cheers! :)

Thanks for the idea. The person on whose behalf I'm looking would really like to have a 17.3" screen, and the Lenovos you mention don't have that.

Did they get something yet? If so, what?
