    hello hello,

plan to buy compaq v2000 asap!! my old laptop is retired. i browsed to retail store today, checked out few things and like v2000 a lot. however......

I found that the brightview screen on V2000 is NOT as vivid as other HP/Compaq that uses Brightview. I found that it has too much white/brightness on V2000 and the color is NOT as vivid. I have tried to adjust the brightness, but never achieved same results as other HP/Compaq lines. I am not a gamer, but screen is the most important thing for me. Now, I have another choice SONY FS550. This VAIO also has shared video memory, but the screen has excellent quality just as I expected.

Was it just my eyes or because other notebooks use better videocard (ATI)? Anyone can explain?

if price is not an issue, which one should i choose V2000 or FS550?

I have v2000 and I have no problems with the screen.
If you got money to throw around ,go for Sony [ :)]

The Sony VFS550 was also one of my preferred target for my soon-to-buy laptop, but it has no TV-out, which stopped me.

About the V2000, I just bought and returned one, for a silly keyboard reason, I'm very picky about it. But perhaps what you have experienced with the screen is because it's a 18bits LCD, some hardware dithering is performed, which leads to strange situations sometimes. Also, the fact that it is a 14 inch compared to other 15 inch might lead to some differences. But, personnaly, I found the screen visual quality to be REALLY good. Its shadow spots (caused by back light's position) were not disturbing at all, being very small and concealed in the bottom corners. I wouldn't detract from buying a V2000 based on the screen.

Now, I've heard that the DV1000 with BrightView has better contrast and such but I've seen both the DV1000 and V2000 with BrightView and didn't notice a difference, both screens looked fantastic to me.
