I have a few minor issues with the:
HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N
CD Drive that came with my 4040us Pavillion.
I can't locate firmware or drivers for this "Generic" drive.
Anyone know a link?
I don't know anything about the firmware, but the driver is dated July, 2001, even though the laptop was purchased new in June, 2005.
Thanks!

Every HP comes with a drivers/firmware recovery CD. The drivers/firmware you're looking for can be installed from there.

Windows does not need any additional drivers other than the one installed with Windows. Are you having a particular issue?

its a plain old ide device as far as windows is concerned, thats why its dated 2001, which is when xp came out.

Okay, thanks. The issues are that the drive is 24X when reading CD's, but usually goes much, (2-6) slower than that when ripping a CD. Also has trouble reading some CD's that work just fine on other computers.
Now I see why the driver date is so old. Just seemed odd at first for a new drive with DVD writing capability to have a 4 year old driver.
Found out from HP that there is no update to firmware for this drive yet. They said they are working with the manufacturer to get one as they have had complaints like this. -
Need firmware / driver
