    Hi,

I have a Dv3500 laptop, the copper colored model, and I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on this laptop. Everything installs and works fine, except the intergrated usb webcam on the monitor.

It's showing up in Device Manager as a USB Webcam, driver details state it is using a driver by Microsoft and that it is working properly.

When I try to use the webcam, I get an error stating that the usb device is in use.

I have already deleted and reinstalled the usb cam, the usb drivers in device manager.

Anyone have a solution? driver? anything?

What software are you trying to use with the WebCam? If you haven't already, try installing either the HP or Cyberlink WebCam software that came with your unit. I belive they both include a webcam driver in the install.

I did try reinstalling and even updated the cyberlink youcam application, and media smart video apps. No good.

I did run a recovery, to reinstall the entire OS, I still get issues. The webcam is listed as a "usb camera" driver by microsoft. Nothing else. Still says it is in use when I try to use it.

    Kinda at a loss I think :(

so far I have installed Win7, among a straight install of Vista, and no luck on getting this working.

Anyone with any kind of drivers, I did a hardware id look up and got this:

I found Sonix drivers, which did not work, so anything else? or is it just dead?

Are you using Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? That can be a major issue especially if the driver was built for a 32 bit system and you're upgrading to a 64 bit one. My best piece of advice here, leave Vista licking it's wounds and wait a bit before using Windows 7, and stick with XP for now. Windows 7 does look like it's going to be pretty nice, but for me, a rule of thumb is to wait for the second service pack with any Windows OS. Vista was such a POS, I avoided it like the plague. Let me know if this works for you.

We have the two units in the Sig running Vista SP2. No issues here with either of the WebCams and both are listed in Device Manager under Imaging Devices as “HP WebCam” and are using Microsoft driver v. 6.0.6001.18000.

As Darlog said, it could be a 64 bit issue if that’s what you’re running. With all you’ve tried already the only other things might be a BIOS update (though I didn’t see anything WebCam specific mentioned in any of the listed BIOS update notes at HP) or figure out what’s “using the device”. The only shared components with the WebCam I can think of are the audio and the bus. Perhaps un-install the audio and see what happens… though if you’ve done a recovery and it still failed to work ….. who knows.

    More ideas welcome !
