Hello, I'm a fractal artist and I recently purchased a HP DV8t-1200 Win7 Pro x64 quad-core laptop to help with rendering my artwork faster. It has the Nvidia GeForce GT 230M with 1GB Ram. My problem is that I cannot get the monitor calibrated. I've tried Windows Color Management, Nvidia Control Panel settings, doing it visually using the fn+F7 (dim) and F8 (brighten) shortcuts to setup the brightness, contrast, and gamma correctly.

Tonight I used an old version of Everest Home Edition to find out the manufacturer for the LCD screen in the hopes of finding an .icm profile on their website but no luck either.

    Everest gave me these details:
Monitor Name Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
    Monitor ID CMO1800
    Manufacturer N184H4-L01
    Manufacture Date Week 40 / 2008
    Serial Number None
Max. Visible Display Size 41 cm x 23 cm (18.5")
    Gamma 2.20
    DPMS Mode Support None

I've been using this link, Monitor Calibration: Is Your Monitor Calibrated?, to try it manually. For the white point checker, I'm able to see the top 4 boxes but that's it. I can only make out the top 2 left boxes on the black point checker. The gamma is supposed to be set at 2.2, which Everest claims it is, but I can't a grey box on the page to appear as one shade of grey.

I even bought a monitor calibration tool called a Spyder3 Express but it's not able to do it either. It just made the screen less brighter a bit.

Is there an ICM profile file I can download that would work or is does anyone know what the correct settings would be?
