    Hi there,

I need some assistance regarding purchasing a new motherboard for my HP DV6189eu laptop. The original one went dead with no screen and no bips at boot...
I know from some research that is common of that model of gpu (7200go) to die like that. So I am heading towards buying a motherboard with a different graphic chip, like a Intel one.

The original motherboard is spare number 443774-001. My main question is if I have to be careful in buying a new motherboard or just a new one for the same DV6000 series model with AMD socket is enough?

Some wise advice would certainly be appreciated, thanks for your time.

    Best regards,
    Tamer Ekentok.

Any new motherboard you can get for the AMD version of the dv6000 is going to have the same problem because HP used nvidia chipset/graphics cards in the AMD version of the laptop. If you are looking for a replacement one then look for a motherboard for the dv6000 series(dv60xx - dv64xx) with either the Nvidia Geforce go 6150 or the Go 7200 graphics cards. Thats the only available options for that series.

If you want one with a Intel graphics(GMA 950 - if i'm not mistaken) then you will have to replace the CPU with an intel as well.

i've found something else... my notebook is dv6189eu, there is an intel version of the same laptop which is dv6189ea... in hp site in dv6189eu's specs they wrote 65 watt power adapter, in he 6189ea's is 90 watt adaptor...

i think i couldn't explain what i mean, sorry about my bad english... i will paste the links of the two pc's you can take a look by yourself, at the bottom, in the power section... is this difference a big problem? i was referencing dv6189ea to buy an intel mobo, to reduce the capability problem, but now i'm confused :S

    for dv6189eu:

Based on the service manuals, the chassis is the same between the AMD and Intel versions of the dv6000. So, they should be switchable. The only things you will need to get if you switch to the Intel board are the cpu and the heatsink/fan assembly.

As far as the A/C adapter, if you get the integrated graphics then you need the 65W, dedicated graphics is 90W. The power connector module should be on a separate PCB from the motherboard. Check the service manual for the exact part numbers...

ok, its a little bit confusing now...
do you know a dv6000 with AMD CPU and ATI GPU?? my main reason for replacing the motherboard to intel mobo is the nvidia chipsets, they say 1 of 7 is effected... i've replaced 2 times in guarantee already and i dont want to replace it again, i mean if a can find a mobo with ATI display and AMD CPU it shouldnt be happen again?

There isn't one. The only non-nvidia based motherboard is the Intel one with the integrated graphics card.

    thanks for your reply...

i know about that fix but i thought i couldn't be able to that :( i think i'm afraid because it's very complicated proccess... heat gun, thermometer, heat must be increase slowly, wait some certaine minutes, cooling proccess ect....

also i'm not sure if the problem is at the video card chipset... because they say bios should beep... 1 long 2 short beeps or something else, but my computer dont boot the bios dont beeps either.... :S

sorry about my bad english, i wish you can understand what i mean...

I understand. It is a very high-risk process. Anyone attempting the fix should also look for burned chips, especially near the power jack. You may be better off selling the notebook on eBay as broken.
